Any Nissan X-Trail owners on here?

Just about to purchase one and wondered if anyone had any good bad or indifferent opinions/first hand experiences with them.

Tried a Honda CR-V and much preferred everything in the Nissan, drive position, drive, visability, gear change, equipment etc.

I really like the X trail and like you preferred it to the CRV when we were looking.

One recurring problem I've heard of is with the diesels (although this may just be on older models). There's some problem with the diesel's whereby you end up having to drive for 20 minutes over X (3-4,000) rpm. I don;t have first hand experience of this but found a lot about it on t'internet.

The "cure" that Nissan advise is that you need to drive for 20 minutes aswell, don't think there's a "fix" as such.

May not be an issue on newer models and think petrols are fine.

Could be due to the particulate filter on the exhaust getting clogged by town driving. Seems diesel cars have a problem like this if you do a lot of stop start town driving with a dpf filter.

Couple of things .. Spare parts are expensive even for nissan .. they dont hold their re-sale value . As for the DPF you will have this with alot of newer vehicles .. Nice machien to drive tho .. Id be careful if buying it private tho mate .. at least at a dealership you will get a warranty.. turbos can give bother on them /.. this as a trade view not an owners view ..

All modern diesels seem to have the Diesel Particulate Filter installed, a 10 min run on the mway or back roads will get the exhaust hot enough to burn off the soot. I had a VRS Octavia 170 PD and it had the problem, I basically gave it a blast when the light came on, fairly unscientific but seemed to do the job.

I've got an 03 diesel x trail and have just gone through the 100k barrier. Not the most exciting of cars but it's never let me down and I get about 35mpg out of it. 90% of my mileage is motorway so it gets a good run nearly everyday. Can't fault it really.

35mpg, that seems quite low. Have u got a heavy right foot?

Sold to thecraw. Took the plunge. Full leather, Satnav, multi change etc.

Only heard good things. Fingers crossed.

Nope, never top 70 on the motorway. Put in 49 litres last night after completing 420 miles, meaning an average of 38.9 mpg and that is 90% motorway. Factor in some town running and you are gonna average about 35mpg. And yes, it has just been serviced last month. Its the 2.2 diesel and nope, it doesnt have a boot full of lead..

35mpg is about right according to one of the guys in the office. It's just a big, heavy car with 4wd... it's never going to be that great on fuel.

Comfy though :)

That's good.
I've got a Qashqai 1.5 DCi. Much smaller, and not 4WD.
I'm getting just over 42 on average and try to drive as economically as I can.
Admittedly it's brand new so still a bit "tight" but even after it's loosened up a bit I'm not expecting much more than 45.

I get 30 out of my Chrysler 3 litre diesel if I'm lucky. I'd be surprised if the x trail is much better than that. Mine's not even a 4x4.

Nissan is 2 wheel drive with an option to put it into 4 wheel if and when required.

35-38 seems to be the average according to reports.

Craw,
I dont own one but i have plenty of experience with them from a panel beating point of view....
Not sure what Nissan U.K are like for prices but anytime we've ordered parts for any over here that we have done they have been stupid expensive for parts...Now bear in mind that this is from a crash repairs point of view....

Radiators are mad expensive...
As are lights and body panels for them....

If its a moderate sized proper 4WD your after then you'd be hard pressed to find anything better than a Suzuki Grand Vitara or an XL7......
My dad is on his 2nd Vitara a 08 model and its a peach to drive..The model before it is like driving a car on the road the handling is so good...Im saving for the earlier on...05/06 model....Their very reliable and when you want them to get mucky they aint afraid of the heavy stuff off road....

A friend of mine that works with me has a mate that is on his 5th one....He could drive any 4x4 he wanted but chooses a Vitara for its reliability and the pulling power...He's constantly pulling a horse box that carries 2 horses on the back of his and says that it'd pull the house down the road after it if he wanted it to......

The X-trails in my opinion are just a mickey mouse 4x4...If your going that route you'd be better off in a people carrier of some sort....

Considering the reviews on the Suzuki compared to the Nissan I'd take the Nissan every day.

Then again its horses for courses. X-Trail has been bought and too date only heard good things about them from owners.

Well wear then Mate. ;)

Had one for 4 years , petrol 2.4 l and love it, good for towing and gets 2 lots of golf gear in easily and it's good for getting up the skifields too.
certainly not a Mickey Mouse 4x4 plenty of them out here in NZ where every other car is a 4X4

It's 7 years old and I've only had one problem so far, clutch in Alternator went.

Pretty heavy on the fuel but I tow a trailer most days and petrol is massively cheaper out here.

Enjoy her Craw it's a dream to drive
