New Turnberry Improvement Plans

This has gone way off topic. I can't think that banning anyone on racial grounds is acceptable, and telling a private club who can be a member or not is unacceptable, but if all the members are of the same colour, creed, religion, some one needs to ask why?

But lets be honest, Turnberry is not betting the Open because hoards of folk with TDS will descend of the place if it does. End of.

And, back on Earth, the changes put in there in the past few years have been excellent.

Serious question....
Are convicted felons allowed into Britain?
I believe they can be blocked but it depends on the offence, will they be a danger to people here. It is not as much a blanket ban as it is in the US for example.

In terms of DT, his background as a former President would mean he would pass the test. Diplomatic issue otherwise.

They have no black members.....so the PGA said no tournaments for them.

They said fine....we will let in who ever we like as members.

Pro's are miffed as they all say it is a great course and deserving of a PGA event.
If it's the case they don't allow black members it's quite right they don't get any events.

It's been held there several times, part of the reasons may be political why it isn't currently held there but the issues of access are genuine, There are other courses that are probably of equal or better quality that have never held the open such as Dornoch, Porthcawl and Portmarnock which also have decent claims but possibly other issues.
Sorry but Dornoch isn’t close to Turnberry ailsa course, I have a friend who is a member there and it’s not that special. I believe Turnberry to be the best open destination because of the course, scenery and hotel/facilities. My favourite course is actually Carnoustie but I can appreciate why Turnberry is more attractive

That’s certainly subjective, Royal Dornoch is absolutely world class.
Not suitable for the Open in my opinion, it’s not long enough and if there is no wind, the pros would destroy it 😂

Dornoch isn’t anywhere near enough of a test to hold a top professional event

Like any links course, it depends on conditions, I’ve played at Fortrose in brutal conditions and it is hard, look at the Women’s Open at St Andrews, pretty hard conditions.
Anyway, back to Turnberry, I don’t believe Politics and Sport should mix, simplistic I know but there you go.
Turnberry should be on the rota in my opinion.

So you would be happy for a club run by the KKK to host a tournament?

And who are these pros who are miffed? Fuzzy Zoeller?

Have a look at who go and play there next time there is a game at Pebble, you will see Rory for one.

Have you ever looked at the course ?

Google it and let me know what you think of it.

No the PGA took their pro tournament away because they did not have black members, if you remember there was a huge outcry against Augusta because they did not have any black members.....

Hence all of a sudden Condy Rice became a member, bowing to the mob.
Condoleeza Rice is also a member at Cypress point.

You are missing the point, it's not that they don't allow black members,
they have the right to allow in whoever they choose, and not be dictated
to by the WOKE mob.
If the only reason they don’t admit any black members is by pure dint of the fact that they are, indeed, black then they are a bunch of racist crackers and as such, racist crackers should not be given tournaments by an organisation that eschews racist crackers.

Like free speech, the right to refuse comes with consequence.

You don’t get it. It doesn’t matter how good the course is, or whether the members / owners are breaking any laws… many people will object on moral grounds.

Surely you can see that Augusta not having any black members was objectionable? 55% of the population is black.

We look at it differently then.....I cannot see a problem but I know a lot of people these days are always looking for a problem whether there is one or not, and I am not saying you are.

If my club was being told who has to be let in for whatever reason I would hope that the members would stand up and say NO, we the members decide.

Oh yeah he’s going to make the open all about himself. Absolute nonsense, he probably would hardly be seen at the venue. He absolutely loves golf and I’m pretty sure he would enjoy the golf for what it is

So you think he would keep a low profile?
Not a chance.
It's irrelevant anyway....

In January 2021, R&A Chief Executive Martin Slumbers released the following statement:
“We have no plans to stage any of our championships at Turnberry and will not do so in the foreseeable future. We will not return until we are convinced that the focus will be on the championship, the players and the course itself and we do not believe that is achievable in the current circumstances.”

I have no problem not being accepted into being a member of a Ladies club, a flat earth club, I hate Trump club etc, let everyone choose who can be a member of there club or not....what is the big deal.
You don't see a problem with a club who won't let someone join because of their skin colour?
