New Ping S55 irons

Beauties, I wasn't tempted by the G25s but they look fantastic. Will await reviews with interest...

My club just happens to be having a Ping Demo Day tomorrow. Hoping they might have a club to try

For fun or as has been asked, your shovels not working out?

My G25's are fine but I still have a hankering for the I20 and would love to have a hit with these new bats just to satisfy my interest and confirm once and for all that my game isn't in a good enough place to warrant the better player irons. It's just an itch I need to scratch

Not sure how you can be that generalistic. Played with a 4 handicapper quite happily using G25 irons.

Where did I mention a low handicapper can't use G25s???
But pretty sure if you check Ping or AG site it will confirm that they're not aimed at the same player. Not to say high or low handicap players can't use either. That ok for you Homie

Don't forget,the numbers don't lie.

Not having a dig Homer, but I've never understood that mentality.

A bad shot is a bad shot no matter what club you're holding.

Granted a GI 'may' give a slightly better result when compared to a 'better players' iron, but if that were really the case, wouldn't everybody be playing SGI irons?

I play off 14. I use better players irons (MP63). Ive had very few issues striking them well. I had MP32's before that. Again no issues.

Yes, you get a sharp sting to your fingers if you catch one a little thin, but that's about it.

Just because a club is marketed 'for the better player' doesn't mean anyone over Cat 1 can't/shouldn't use them.

Weighting aside a longer club head gives a larger sweat spot... Only ego really has us use anything smaller.

to add the Gareths post, remember that it was only a few years ago there was only blades! h/caps havent come down with all these GI irons...has it

Not exactly aimed at the same player as the G25.

No reason I shouldn't have a go with one though is there?! My iron play is by far the best part of my game, my progress stalled this year due to ridiculous work commitments and travel but end of last season I was playing pretty well. Not getting shirty or anything, couldn't be less offended, I know what you're saying but I was just saying Pings latest offering (G25) didn't excite me but this one does. I recently won 500 euro on a scratch card and while that's been ear-marked I'm bound to win the lotto soon.

Apologies if it came across like I was suggesting you shouldn't try or buy this club. I was just suggesting it shouldn't be compared to the G25.
PS try the i20s they're awesome:thup:

I'll try nothin if the wife finds out.

Literally.

:D

Yeah I see what you mean, no worries! I got my G15s at a time when I was probably a mid 20s h/c (no official h/c, just started playing really). Tried the i15s that day and didn't like em, keep promising myself a return to Gainsborough but couldn't justify it with the amount I (didn't) play golf this year. I know folk say you shouldnt chop and change and the G15s are incredibly forgiving so I'm not disrespecting them at all they do exactly what theyre supposed to (and why I bought them), but every now and then I strike a good one with a better club and wonder if I'm missing out on an enjoyable part of the game, the feel of flushing one that you don't really get with the clubs I have...

Says the man with a set of 825 Pros :D

My ego is legendary among my friends, I am well know as being in love with myself... But I did move from MP to JPX Pro in a slight slip of manliness...

Nice looking clubs. Love my s56's so don't think I'll change. I hope they've made the finish on these a bit more durable. I know on my s56's, and also reported elsewhere, after a while the finish starts chipping and peeling.

With regard to higher handicap players using better players clubs. My m8 who plays off 20 used some Mizuno blade style clubs for about 3 years, when he struck the ball ok they flew well enough, but anything off centre and he'd loose a ton of distance. I finally convinced him to try out some more forgiving Mizuno clubs and his handicap has dropped 3 shots in a year. His good ones are about the same, his bad ones are are just way better.

I'm not saying that apply's to all high handicappers, but in this case made a big difference. The game is hard enough, why make it any harder.
