Hi, I have been playing for a few years now and am really chuffed with my current calaway x16's.
I have been down the local golf shop and looking at all those nice woods, irons and wedges. Oh to win the lotto!!
Anyway, I am looking for a 3 wood to replace my current TM V-Steel. Them looking on the well known auction site saw a nice Titleist 909 F2 3wood for a fraction of the cost of these new ones.

So if Im playing off 20 is it really worth spending an extra £70, £80 or even £90 on a club thats brand spanking new rather than a very good second hand one?

cheers

Get what you can afford mate. Some 2nd hand stuff is great, and as golfers are always changing equipment, even when its not needed, you'll be able to pick up some bargains.

Another way to go about it, is after every round u play, put £5 in a jar then after 10/20 rounds you can treat yourself to a bit of new gear.

A good 2nd hand one makes sense and a massive saving, then again i'm liking the look of the new Cobra AMP Cell, maybe wait a while and get it 2nd hand

my whole bag is 2nd hand :)

an example - my razr 3 wood, mint, 36 quid

I would never pay for brand new until I get down to low teens then I would probably look at getting custom fit. Until then 2nd hand will do me just fine :)

Yeh, I think Im going to go for it for now.
There are some great clubs on ebay and I like a challenge.
£35 for a used Titleist 3wood - cant really go wrong... Can I??!!!

thanks for the useful feedback

second hand all the way. there is only 1 club in my bag thats brand new. a wedge. the rest are bargins. oh i love an oul bargin!

Just wondering then, how much on average people have spent on their current kit?
I bought my x16 irons 2nd hand when I was starting out (3years ago) for £100. Some one offered me a Taylormade Burner Tour driver £70 and and £40 for a TM 3 wood and cobra 5wood. Total £210. Not bad considering a new driver is roughly that price eh!
but now Im getting a bit better I feel the need to change.
also is it just posers then that buy new clubs - looks like it!😎

there was a recent thread about this. :)

I'm in the second hand camp on this one.
Bought my Cally Xtours for £70 posted, still see them on fleabay for £150 plus second hand. White ice putter £35, mint. Cally diablo 3 and 5 wood 80 notes for the pair when they were still 140 plus new.

Now looking for a bargain Razr fit driver after having a go with one last summer and loved it.

I have also been to AG and tried out clubs I'm thinking of buying to see if I get on with them. They think they might get a sale, I get half a bucket of free balls and a crack with a club I'll pay about a quarter for on the bay.

I'm also a fan of the used route.

But the V-Steel would be on my list of 3-woods! Along with Sonartec and Tour Edge Exotics.

I don't believe anything really beats these until the (nearly) most recent models (2012) but these haven't reduced sufficiently yet.

If you really want a change, then try the 4-wood route. Plenty about at good prices. Ping seems to make a rather good one.

hello and welcome along.

you can bit up so great bargains on the used market (ebay etc) and sometimes even new last years stock, just be wary a little bit on ebay where you are buying from check feedback and location not all the stuff on there is genuine.
