New Courses 2016

Off to play S&A later this morning with some genuine guys....and Podge... Then got the the Scottish trip at the end of April.. Sandwiched between these is an Open at West Lancs... nice 5 weeks...

5 weeks to go sees the start of a month of golfing heaven for me

Cruden Bay
Murcar
Trump
Carnoustie
Royal St Georges
West Lancs
Royal Lytham and St Annes
Hillside

Played 1 new course so far this year, Bristol and Clifton. OK layout but greens were shocking

Sadly having to pass on our annual trip to Sunningdale this year due to timing, but will make up for it with these ones scheduled

Ash Ridge - April
The Berkshire (Red and Blue but not necessarily in that order...) - June
St Georges Hill - September
Dai Takarazuka - July
Millbrook - not in the same class as above but one I've always wanted to play (good or bad). - March
not new, but returning to Faldo and O'Connor in Portugal too - September

Only 3 new courses planned so far but they are pretty decent

Royal County Down
Royal Portrush
County Sligo (which we played last week)

Will hopefully add a couple more to that list as well as a few rounds in Australia when I'm there on courses as yet unknown.

Trying to cheer myself up during this spell of horrific weather by browsing various opens that I could play at some new courses this year.

I already have North Berwick, Gullane 1, Gullane 2, Kilspindie and Dundonald booked and am looking at some opens at Crail, Boat of Garten and Machrihanish amongst others.

So what new courses are you planning to play this year?

Dullatur :D

Courses that I've not played yet but are on my 2016 itinerary are:

Mar: Princes
Apr: Royal Cromer
May: Trump, Carnoustie
June: Knole Park, Rye
Jul: Sherwood Forest, Brickenden Grange, Burnham & Berrow
Aug: Tandridge
Oct: Aldeburgh (if qualify for MidAm Final)

Already played Leasowe, Hesketh and Fairhaven, playing Pleasington next week and have got Hopwood, Warrington, SAOL and Dean Wood booked over the next few months.

What did you think of County Sligo ? i thought it was a cracking course ,tough but fair.

Nairn Dunbar
Waterville
Tralee
Dooks
Dingle Links

Hopefully getting a game lined up for Ladybank next week.

Then in April it will hopefully be the double with Dundonald and the Old Course (looking to get in via the ballot)

Steve, enjoyed Co Sligo a lot but at same time thought there was a few weak holes, a bit flat in places and a bit un-links like at times although maybe I'm being a bit picky having had really high expectations before playing it.

Will definitely go back in the summer when it should be at its best but at the minute if I had to choose I would pick Enniscrone over it.

Plans being made to hopefully get down to Carne for a weekend and that's one I'm really looking forward to.

I would agree with this completely. Carne and Enniscrone are both superb but Rosses Point has weak holes up the top level around the clubhouse. I thought from the par 3 4th hole to the 17th was great but the other 4 holes let the course down a bit. Would still play it again though. Another very good course to consider in the area is Co Donegal if you get the chance.

Glad to hear it not just me that felt Rosses Point was a little bit weak in places but as I say definitely a course I will head back down to play soon.

Enniscrone is a cracker and definitely one of my favourites, have played Co Donegal a few times and yep great course as well.

We really are spoiled for great golf courses here in the north west of Ireland

Have they got the new greens in play at Sligo yet Stephen, they were getting done when we were there in September, there old greenskeeper was a member at my club, now he's the main man at Portrush. I thought 18 was a poor finishing hole, 17 was a cracker up the hill for the second shot. Its the West of Ireland there this weekend some illustrious winners of the before. Carne looks superb I've read a lot about it thru and American writer John Garrity.
