Right i have been having a look on amazon and i remember reading last night someone saying that the book by darren clarke - mind factor was a good book.

So i went and bought this book also along with the following

Erine Els - Guide to golf fitness
Guide to weight traiing for golf

so while am offshore i can do a bit of reading of these while am not playing and also continue with my fitness in the gym

anyone else recommend any books which found useful?

I dont agree, i think alot can be learned from books.

I have been recommending Ernie Els guide to golf fitness for a while and its a top notice training aid. I suffered from non-specific training and a little too much muscle bulk. This lead to being muscle tight, which equates to a poor golf swing!

Further reading:

Dave Pelz Short Game Bible
Dave Pelz Putting Bible
The Swing Factory
The Golfers Mind: play to play great (out in April)

Let me know what you think of Ernies book?

you might like this one:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Swing-Like-Pro-B...3458&sr=8-1

Haven't regretted buying it. Only thing is some of the drills require you to either make or buy a golf club-like training device but since I haven't used the drills I haven't bothered. My enjoyment of the book and the knowledge I have gleaned about the mechanics of the swing have not been dimished by not using the drills.

The chapter on 'The Transition' is as good as any ive read about how the pros generate that amazing clubhead speed.

It'll have you wanting to test some of these things out for yourself which on an oilrig in confined quarters might be a bit frustrating

I've got to say liked the Dave Pelz short game book - some very useful stuff. I'm finding the putting book a bit heavier and a lot harder to put into practice.

I have bought a putting aid to help me though (not from Dave Pelz). Basically it's a mirrored surface with lines on for aligning the shoulders and two rails which are a putters width apart.

Place the ball into the slot and stand so you are looking with your eyes directly over the ball and the shoulders square along the target line. The rails then keep the putter on line as you swing back and through the line.

The rails can be removed and there are holes where tees can be inserted to restrict the length of backswing and to check the putter is swinging through the line.

I'd like to add my approval to the "swing like a pro" book, it's excellent.

So'd the swing factory and the rotella books.

I found the Pelz books a little bewildering, and you need world class practice facilities (and a lot of time) to carry out his recommended routines.

Wow! The putting bible is heavier than the short game bible?

You must have the patience of a saint HJS.

FWIW I thought the Pelz short game bible is on the one hand an authoritative and exhaustive look at the short game but on the other too much of an uncomfortable 'system'.

The whole format of the book is long due an overhaul. The photography is pretty awful , grainy and sometimes confusing.

I admire Pelz' tenacity in bringing it to the market and the overall message of the importance of the short game is beyond doubt. Less and better images would breath new life into what I thought was starting to look like a tired format.

I was going to get the putting bible but won't now...unless it's brought up to a better standard in future reprints.
