Annoyingly I'm still struggling with the wrist injury - I'm going to start doing some exercises to try and strengthen the area as it's almost impossible to rest it due to the position of it, it's on the ulnar side of my wrist.

No photos ............................ please! ;)

3 sessions of phase 2 (7 out of 24) on the Neural Drive and seeing an improvement over last week, bit weird stepping up from full to max swings, but still enjoying it.
Also started with a gym programme to help with speed and strength, all focussed on keeping me going over winter and in to next season.

Hello! I did speed training 12 month ago for 3 weeks (superspeed first protocol) and I went from 106 mph to 110 mph with drivers on course, I was amazed because i have never hitted so long and so straight. My hdc also went from 8 to 2. The only downside is that I have had to change my golf clubs to a slightly firmer one, now I play dynamic gold x-100 on my irons and feels so much better.

My best speeds with with PGRG where : 120/116/111 (green/blue/red)

This winter I started again the superspeed protocol and I am very pleased that my speed has not back down but improved without any training! after 2 weeks of training my best speeds are: 125/119/113

I also took my PRGR to the course and I consistently hit 112 mph with the driver so very very pleased.

Some comments:
- Even if I am not as strong as other member (5x75kg squat for example) I can move the clubs almost as fast because I think that what limit our speed is related with the Central Nevous System (CNS), wich is what we train when doing speed training sessions...
- My driver speed is very high compared to my green/blue/red speed compared to other user... I think it is because I go hard at the ball when playing, I feel like I get more consistent when doing that than when trying to control it.
- Technique is overrated, I think I am hitting straighter now when not thinking and going fast than in any other point in my "golf career". There are also movements that can only be learn by doing speed training I think.

My current objective is reaching 120mph club and 180 ball speed on course (i will combine CNS and strength training) and I will be sharing how everything goes.

Have fun!

Love this! Welcome to the forum too.

I need to test my driver speed again actually, with doing no speed training since April I've not kept an eye on my actual speed, although I know from where I'm hitting it on the course that I'm still getting some good numbers.

Hoping to get back on it properly this winter, interested to see where my numbers are at.

I'm not saying that this is complete rubbish, but you are saying you did 3 weeks speed training and dropped 6 shots from your handicap? Was the speed work the only thing you did and how long did it take to drop the 6 shots? I suspect it wasn't in 3 weeks.

You are correct, maybe I didn't express myself well: what I did was 3 weeks of speed training (only) and the following months I droped to hdcp 2 (I am currently at 3.1). Even though the improvement happened at the start I needed to play tournaments to be official and it required time.

I also didn't say that I had been a scratch player (more than 10 years ago) before and by the time I started doing speed training my worst area of the game by far was the tee shots, I dont know when or why I lost that area of the game, but know I have it back thanks not to technique but to speed training.

Maybe I am not a good example though but It can happen to others too!

FWIW, ann obvious question but did you have enough time to warm up? It takes me about half an hour to get to my average speed from “cold”.

Also it might be the sequence is out of synch rather than the raw speed.

The TPI videos cover a lot on how to get the speed delivered at the right point.

UPDATE OF MY PREVIOUS POST:

I finished the first part of speed training: the protocol I + gym strenght + CNS training for this months with massive improvements. I also rested a lot between sessions and only trained when totally prepared.

The highest speeds of my last session are: 131/124/119 (green/blue/red). I can also consistently hit 115 mph with the driver on the course without feeling that I am going hard and I can reach up to 119 mph (but I cannot do it on the course playing).

Some comments:
- I maintain what I said, technique is overrated, hitting long has made me straighter from the tee.
- I have won my first "longest driver" contest in an amateur final tournament, I also played very well (it was awesome).
- I have been slighly injured twice: a phalanx of my finger (4-5 days without golf) and now my back (1-2 weeks aprox). Both in the gym doing heavy (for me) deadlifts :/
- I firmly believe that the CNS training has been the main factor in the speed improvements, much more than the strength training in the gym.

I'm going to take advantage of my back injury to rest before starting the second part of the speed training protocol + gym + CNS training. I will incorporate new CNS training exercises originally aimed to improve sprint and vertical jump in atletism.

I feel that maybe I can achieve my original objective sooner than expected! and I conclude saying that I am having more fun now than ever playing golf:)

I will keep posting, have fun!

What sort of ball speeds are we talking about here?

I'm jumping out of my boots to touch 150 ball speed.

I'd love to get to 160 ballspeed for next year. Maybe ill buy some sticks and get to work.

In my case I touch 170 mph ball speed on my best shots with 115 mph club head speed.

I also feel that it is easier to increase ball speed by increasing club head speed than by improving smash factor. For example if you have 1.44 smash factor (104 club and 150 ball speed), I feel it is easier to went to 156 mph by increasing the club head speed to 108 (with same smash factor) than to trying to increase the smash factor to 1.5 (with normally requieres a swing change)

Are these sticks identical length wise to drivers etc?
More or less, but the sticks are not the key part of the speed training but the swing speed radar. You need a way to measure the improvememts and compare each swing. If I had to choose bewteen sticks or radar I would get a speed radar and just do the protocols with a normal driver or follow the speed training session of Dechambeau/Kyle...

btw I use the PRGR.

Just shows you how we are all different.
I was scoring 80+ on a tight course.
I slowed my swing down, gained more control, hit more fairways and was soon back to shooting around level par.

For some, its not all about distance.

Indeed. Few people can control their swing at high swing speeds. For those that can, it is a huge weapon. Fair play to them.

I could do some damage with 170 ballspeed. That's impressive and I'm not one bit jealous at all. :(

Having read this thread and other stuff about speed training, I believe Santa is bringing me some speed sticks and a radar for Christmas! Had a go on a friend's radar and I was clocking about 94 average with the driver, that's not too bad , but I'd like to see if I can get to over a hundred , I think that would really make a difference to my game.
