OK so the Good ole AD333s have done me well, great ball, cheap and fantastic for a beginner.

I have begun to run out so played a few balls I have found/been given.

Srixon soft feel
Pro V1
Srixon Z-star

I noticed that my short game and approach play improved significantly with the latter two.

Not being up on ball tech I read around and decided that I needed something a little more advanced. I can compress a ball really well but what I want is a ball that checks on short shots more than the AD333s.

My plan is to take these balls to the practice green along with a sleeve of some balls I have been recommended, the wilson FG tours.

Does anyone have any suggestions of other balls that might fit the bill but also be on the mid cost range? I remember GM doing a ball section and I cannot remember any other cheaper premium balls.

What do you guys think?

Once I have decided which ones I like around the practice green/area I will give them a bash on the course. As long as it doesnt loose too much distance off the tee I will be happy.

Try the Bridgestone range.
The 330 series has a ball for almost any occasion and the E5 is a great ball for the price.

I have heard only good things about those, at the moment its between them and the wilson FG tours.

I have never got on with the AD333, but for feel and spin/control around the greens I`ve not found anything better than the Z Star.

Bridgestone RXS or 330s are my first choice as a combination of performance and value, but if money was no object then Z Star all day for me

Good shout is also last years z star you can pick a box up for 25 quid at the American golf near you science boy (spend tone at meon valley so know the area )

Z-Star all the way, far better than the Pro-V1 in my opinion.
And despite what a couple of people say I don't think they cut up that quick either.
And weirdly if you use the Z-Star yellow, it cuts up even less (I've started to see a lot of these being played even through the summer)

Thanks for all the help guys!

Going to borrow or buy a few of some of the above.

Already have the FGs and I expect good things from them, they are the leader at the moment.

I will report back, already I can say the Z-Stars and ProVs are out due to cost. I want to find a ball I can stock up on and play for the rest of the year.

I will pop the 333s away till winter :D

A late shout for Callaway Tour i(s) £30 for dozen. Amazing around the green. Nice spin off full wedge and lovely skip and stops from half wedges. No compromise off the tee. Lefty's ball of choice. Nuff said. Think I will look into the Wilson 3's for winter, like what I am reading on them.
