Hi Guys

My oldest son knocked over his netbook while it was on charge and it has damaged the charging port.

He has had it for over two years so no warranty left on it and i need to get it fixed as he has loads of his 'A' level work on it. Is it just a case of replacing the port or is there more to it like a certain computer retailer told me this evening when i called in and asked the question.

Any advice greatly appreciated

Yes probably a port replacement or perhaps you might be lucky and need just a resolder/reflow. Do you know anyone with a soldering iron and a knack for taking things apart?

It could be a great deal worse if the port has come of the board and lifted the solder pads and/or tracks. That could be expensive. Then again the power supply is often seperate from the main board so could get away with perhaps just swapping this out.

What is the make and model I will take a quick look online.

Thanks sawtooth, its a Samsung NC10 netbook, the wee pin inside the port has broken so im hoping its just a replacement but PC World informed me tonight its not possible to just replace the charging port as its part of the motherboard and i would be better buying a new laptop as it would be cheaper. not for one second did I believe this so thought i would ask on here first.

Any help or advice is much appreciated
