Polishing super scruffed boots

Those are similar to the utility/patrol boots that we got our lad. The ones the ATC supplied were parade/drill boots with the high shine toecap section.

He only wears his utility boots with his greens and that's when they're doing field exercises or away on camps. Rest of the time it's his blues and if he's wearing the blues he's expected to wear his parade/drill boots.

Appreciate the CCF is different to just the ATC.

I always used to heat up a spoon, use it to apply the polish to the boot all over the cracks etc creating a new surface then buff the life out of them

The good old ATC 😁

Always used to giggle when we saw them at air shows and parades there was always a cadet WO or Flight SGT that had stations above 😂

I'm of the generation whose dads either served in WW2 or did national service after. Practical things like this got taught in the home.

My dad showed me one trick. Chip a tiny bit of Kiwi off into the upturned lid. Put a lighted match to it briefly to melt it and blow out the flame.
Quickly apply the gooey black liquid to the scuffed area with a cloth covered finger. Brush and polish over with more Kiwi in the normal way.

I've no idea if this is a good or even sensible technique, but I have done it occasionally and it seems to work.
There is a memory

Back in the 60s one of my mates who was in the Army Cadets showed me that.
Seem to remember him using a spoon and the back of the spoon to smooth it out.

Yeah, there is a Flt Sgt at his squadron that is like that. My lad is an aircraft geek (and I mean GEEK, studies them intricately) and is also now doing the flight hours for his private license having completed his ground school earlier this year. Said Flt Sgt said something about a specific aircraft and the lad politely corrected them and, let's just say that it did not go down well at all. Flt Sgt asked my lad "what experience do you think you have to undermine my authority?" and my lad calmly fired back "I've personally flown this type of aircraft several times and had to study pretty much every part of it for my ground school pre-flight checks module..." and just left that hanging in the air.

Flt Sgt has been singling him out recently but my lad is smarter and thicker skinned to let that bother him :D
