In recent weeks we have had the sick and twisted nursery nurse who did unimaginable things to children who couldn't tell anyone what was going on and all the talk in previous years of capitol punishment for those who killed Jamie Bulger and even that thick cow who kidnapped her own daughter and I think I have a way to deter them more than just prison and without the death penalty (which can never be brought back thatnks to Donald Dewer).

In future I would declare that anyone who commits a crime should be sentenced as usual but my punishment would come into affect on their release.....

If I had my way they would be told once they step outside the prison gates they are on thir own. They couldn't get a new identity, they couldn't leave this island and they would not be issued with Police protection. You see murderers having millions spent on them to keep their past a secret and giving them safe houses and in some cases jobs... nah !!!!!

Thats tough for them because if they commit the crime they then must accept the consequences of their actions.

My idea - and I'm certain that someone, somewhere would object - is that once found guilty (and let's be honest, there's no chance that they can't be anything but) they'd have to travel round their area - village to village or within their Town/City wearing some form of identification of who they are and what they've done. The general public then have 24 hours to do whatever they want with them. I doubt they'd see out the 24 hours.
This would only apply to crimes involving children - all other crimes would result in the usual gaol term.
It'd solve at least two social problems. 1) Anyone even contemplating such a heinous crime would blatantly think twice and 2) all the youngsters caught up in the binge drinking culture would be able to batter the wierdos instead of the innocent people they pick on now.
Job done!!!

I think we should go back to tradional forms of punishment, such as the birch and stocks these should be done in public, as crazy as it sound embarassing these people is sometimes worse for them than locking them up where they can hide.

This is the part that I don't understand - why are they allowed to hide??? They've done something wrong that they should never be able to get away from.
Having said that, my Sister works for the local council and it's now law that any criminal record after three years can no longer be taken into consideration when the person is applying for a job. So, what's the point in having criminal records at all??? As an aside, she sits next to someone with a criminal record for GBH......NICE!!!

Its all to do with the idea that you should be forgiven once you have done your time, you have taken the punnishment you were charged by your peers and paid for your crime so to speak.

I think its a very hard one to prove or disprove if someone comes out of jail and is treated like a criminal, are the more likely to reoffend.

The real issue here is that sentences have been diluted dramatically, so no longer does the punishment fit the crime

Life should mean life

10 years should be 10 years, not out in 4 under licence.

Agree 100% we should have a 3 strikes policy like America to stop persistent criminals

Proper sentences over there though - 999 years - out in - NEVER!!! Not like our sentences - 2.5 days for stabbing someone to death!!! What make me laugh though, is they can appeal against their sentence because it's too harsh so, 2.5 days becomes 18 minutes!!!

a solution to prison overcrowding.

the guv'mints is to turn them loose after serving a fraction of the sentence which may have deprived them of the ability to go the pub of an evening but little else.

instead all sentences should be hard labour, chain gangs etc and served in full - no remission but cause problems and it's automatically increased. you could halve the sentences because they would be meaningful and so bloody tough they would never want to risk going back.

my solution:sell raffle tickets at a footy stadium, average gate 40k x £2 each, winning ticket pulls the trigger, end of scum,ie no longer here to re offend, and the good bit is give the proceeds to the N.H.S.80 grand a week is a lot of dosh, vote me in for prime minister

Seems I have wandered into the Daily Mail forum :D

Does the death penalty work in America or China?

I favour the idea of community punishment (ie work gangs in high visibilty clothes)for "lower end" crimes and heavier punishment at the "top end" of criminal behaviour.

I don't neccesarily disagree with Mads post but leaving justice in the hands of us is a dangerous idea,if you crash into someones car would that give them the right to smack you one?

We could of course just legalise and tax drugs thereby removing one of the main causes of crime.

I dont want lynch mobs chasing people when they are released, I just dont think they should get special treatment from the tax payer who have paid for their incarceration. They come out and deal with what they did and try and convince people they have changed their ways.

I think there should be zero tolerance policy, as was in Humberside, if memory serves me right, some years ago where their Chief of Police was very sucessful......but the do gooders and PC brigade got him hounded out of office.
