As a sequel to my previous thread, and as a special treat for The Craw, please share the most overrated course you have played! Pull no punches,I imagine some healthy debate may ensue! :D

The Brabazon. The course is presented in fantastic condition, but there are probably only three or 4 memorable holes.

Ooooh, where is DelB,he will be gobsmacked!

I got pasted on here a few weeks ago because I dared to say I was disappointed with it......very good course but I've certainly played better. From all the hype about it I thought it was going to be better than anything else I'll ever play

Fair enough mate,it certainly is not a cheap round!

Any course costing more than about £80 has the potential to be 'over-rated' imo.

There's a standard 'law of diminishing returns' that applies to golf courses - as well as the likes of wine, restaurants etc. There's also often a significant element of 'keep visitors off' built into the price of visitor fees, so I don't include 'value for money' in my rating.

I rate 'expensive' courses on the quality, or otherwise, of the component holes as well as the overall flow and balance of the course and overall experience of a visit, including the club-house one. In this regard The Brabazon, wth only about 4 really good/memorable holes, scores poorly for me. Muirfield, with aeveral of my actual or near favourite holes, scores much higher. The Old Course at St Andrews has to be 'somewhat over-rated' for me, with interesting holes rather than great ones. It is a 'must play' course though.

The West Course at Wentworth.

Costs an arm & a leg, has NO memorable holes, just a slog. Oh and as a visitor you are about as welcome as an unpleasant smell in a space-suit.
