I can't beleive you guys are still going on about this young guy - he has been suspended (punished)that should be enough. Why do you have a for sale section if you cannot use it, how many times is to many 1, 2, 3, 6 - & I do not think it is our place to question how he came to own these items how can you be sure anything on the for sale section or ebay is legaly owned by the seller

Minty, that is a bit disturbing really isnt it?

Medway, I'm not sure if you mean my post is or his hobbies but to be honest with you i find it quiet sick mate.

The fact he is 15yrs old doesn't make any difference to me, infact its people of this age that are more capable of causing harm as i'm not sure they fully understand the consequences (sp.).

Lovers of knives??? That to me would suggest that he more than likely carries one with him or atleast owns a few. I know liverpool or the suburbs are a pretty rough place but I've still got no time for anyone who believes in things like this.

I suppose on the bright side I could borrow one of his knives to hack my way through the bushes to find my golf ball?

I do find the muscle flexing of Mods on a 15 year old quite funny, though I do think the forum needed someone to delete threads and ban people
Parmo, Its not a case of flexing muscles (is anyone really that pathetic to feel the need to lord it over a 15 year old on the interweb, no keyboard warriors here im afraid) at all and it would have happened if the guy was 15 or 50 (though that would have made it all the more strange behaviour on his part).
One thing some folk may be missing is that he may have been using his account to sell on behalf of others, but if this was the case then he really should have stuck to Ebay.

afternoon all

without wishing to prolong what is now quite a long thread I do want to stand up for the moderators here.

In the end it was my decision (after consulting with moderators who are on the forum a lot more than I am so have a better handle on what's going on) to ban mono for a period of one week.

Before I set the ban I did email him (pasted in below) to inform him of what was happening and why. FWIW, I haven't had a response.

This forum is a fantastic community for golfers that has been built into what it is by the forumers (not GM or IPC media) on the principles of equality and a desire for it to be informative, engaging and spam free.

I really want to stress that there's no question of flexing muscles, vindicating anyone because of age, style of posting, where they come from. This was was a simple issue of the for sale forum guidelines (and ethos) being constantly ignored.

best

Mike

"Dear Mono
Having consulted with all the forum moderators I regret that we have taken the decision to ban you from the forum for a period of one week.
You have been contacted many times by moderators via private message with warnings about your continual use of the forum in order to try and sell golf equipment but have failed to scale back the frequency of your 'for sale' posts.
There are clear guidelines on how the forum, and in particular the 'for sale' subsection works, which it would appear you have simply ignored and in the process upset the loyal forum users who have made the Golf Monthly forum what it is - a friendly place for the exchange of opinions and views and the genuine sale of equipment an individual no longer requires.
We sincerely hope this ban will be temporary and that once lifted you will stick to the guidelines posted
Best regards
Michael Harris

Whats that response meant to do Mike?

All it does is add more fuel to the fire. What else can we expect when you appointed the moderators, your hardly then going to then go against them.

Its also been pointed out that all moderators were not involved in the decision which begs a totally different set of questions. The most sensible solution would be to delete or lock this thread now as we are going to continue going round in circles for months and things will no doubt take a turn for the worse.

For what its worth I think it was a disgusting decision and I will continue to back this up. Maybe look at taking a harder line at the people who are making up accusations are indeed have now resorted to petty playground name calling.

The "ganghut" have won well done.

Is the ganghut not a petty playground name?
Thecraw, one moderator seems to have been missed out on the email list, this still leaves a majority "in the loop".
You can disagree all you like, it wont change matters, I know the majority of members here wont have to wipe away the tears with his absense for a week so why get so vocal about it?

Craw, as you know I was the moderator who was left out of the loop. This was a genuine mistake and I've since had an apology. The fact remains that six other moderators were consulted and the decision was made. My input would not have changed the decision.

One thing I do agree with, is that this thread should be locked, and I have already PM'd admin to see if it can be done, as I don't have the tools to do it.

I see it the other way round to be honest craw, I see Mike has given us his explanation of what has gone on and who's decision it was because up until that point the "blame" as such has been squarely laid at the feet of the mods. Mike, in his capacity as editor, has seen fit to shoulder said blame and has informed us all of this.

I then see your reply to Mike as adding more fuel to the fire and stoking things up again.

We are all well aware you disagree with the mods decision, for christs sake just stop reading the thread and let it drift off the board to be forgotten about.
