• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

Have you ever played with a known handicap cheat?

But would these golfers not find it then embarrassing to go out and struggle to be anywhere near the standard of the other golfers in the event
Guess it depends ,it certainly didn't bother Maurice Flitcroft.
If you're only a few shots of qualifying, you could explain it away as a bad day at the office.

Many years ago I had to play a bloke in match play, the Pro laughed when I told him who I had to play, in OZ you can play the match also in a club comp, so opted for this......thinking if I played well and he won his handicap would be cut.

He won 4 & 3 and then wiped the last three holes, still had 34 points......

To say he did not have too many friends would be an understatement.....still nothing was done.

He would always feature in knockout comps or team events.

Why people have to do this I do not know, how can you get enjoyment out of something that you blatantly cheat at,
worse still, is that you get no respect from other golfers.

Played a corporate team stableford event at the Torrence course at St Andrews, paired up with a Canadian guy and Irish guy.
Really looking forward to the day, got to first tee starter advised us the line I hit a good tee shot and good second just on fringe of green putted to 6 inches great thought I parr on first hole.
Canadian guy hit ball back to me and said “ I’ll give you that” I was shocked and told him you can’t do that he just laughed.
Later my tee shot went just of fairway couldn’t find it but found another ball and he said “ that’s ok just hit that”.

I ignored him and never finished the hole and stopped speaking to him the rest of round.

He also got annoyed on one fairway threw his ball in air and angrily hit onto another fairway.

Ruined what could have been a great day out.

Was he angry because you didn't reciprocate his "good will"? Perhaps you didn't allow him to take a free drop from a divot?

No he was just a Pratt worst person I have ever played with, day started so well my daughter organized the event and there was a putting competition before play with a prize of staying at the Fairmont Hotel with round of golf.

I was leading with only a few left to putt, after round I went to my daughter and asked who won, I came second so lost out.

Probably the best outcome if your daughter organised it. You'd only get moaning that it was fixed

Hope you don't think we're all like that! (I'm a Canadian, and proud of it.)
Also hope that you just placed your ball at the spot it was moved from by an outside influence and holed out from there - no penalty to you or the other player in stroke play (Stableford is stroke play).
