Society Handicap & Score Management

So, Handicap Master feedback...

In general a solid platform but it misses 3 out of the 5 key features that we are looking for and there is a lot of redundancy in the features that are there that I simply cannot see a good use for without those that are missing, for example, players can enter their scores, but only at the end of the round, which makes the live leader boards somewhat pointless. Were scores entered during the round, a leader board would make sense.

There are a few others which are even less appealing, although Riddy Golf, a new and soon to be released app, may resolve some or all of this.

I have to say, I am shocked that a sport the size of golf with the number of societies currently active all over the world is being catered to so poorly in this regard. It isn't as though people aren't spending large sums of money to play, so why are developers not interested in tapping into those funds by bringing a comprehensive system to market?
Can I ask...how big would a society need to be for a live leaderboard to be useful?

Is a live leaderboard for the folks who have finished or do people really want to see where they are placed DURING their round whilst they are playing?

In reality, I can only answer this question for my society as this is the only one that I have played in, however, in our case we tend to have anything from 12 (extremely hot weather here in summer sees numbers dwindling fast!) to 40 or 3 to 10 groups on the course. We used to do paper cards but having the live score with you added an extra "dimension" to things and, for some at least, an extra layer of "excitement". Knowing that you need a 3 on the tough par 4 18th sometimes leads to those that don't wither under pressure playing some pretty inspired golf! Of course, it can also lead to some doomed attempts to score for those that do wither! 😂

The issue is that no two societies are the same and it's almost impossible to cater for everyone. I would also say some of your requirements are actually just nice-to-haves that many don't want (e.g. on-course scoring and leaderboard). A truly comprehensive product would be too expensive - people will always lean towards the much cheaper compromise solution and adapt to it.

These issues are also played out with the full club software packages, all of which are missing what some would say are key features, or do them badly.

When the Earlier Scottish Golf App - VMS - was in use that had a live leaderboard which I found interesting and useful - much like the tour players have. It’s one of the functions I miss from the DotGolf app SG now use

OK fair enough, we are all different and I guess some folks would enjoy such a feature but personally, I couldn't imagine anything worse than checking my phone every ten minutes to see who was winning. :D

Some of my golf society members are getting on a bit and aren’t technology minded.
If they had to get their phones out after every hole to update their scores, it’s a recipe for slow play.

No problem with putting your own score in at the end- just like after a counting round at the club.

But after every hole, no ta
