I got in from work at 7 pm and it had been done and dusted and from what I can make out it was Mike Harris who made the call on mono, not a mod. I think GM have a duty of care to people wanting to buy legitimate goods and mono couldn't or wouldn't answer Mikes Questions.

If you stick Mono217 into Google you will swiftly find a list of his hobbies.

Hobbies: fishing football hunting fires, bombs and fighting and woodwork and guns

That's fine, but it just proves Mono is a sham. He doesn't list golf in there.

Lololol this is a joke right?

Nope

Firstly, that could be anybody...Secondly, (if it is him) just because he doesn't name golf as his hobbies doesn't mean he's a 'sham'

He has many pictures of him on a golf course, I'm guessing he took them just so that he could sell the clubs though right? Lol

I'm gonna call off my deal with mono now. I'm not sure what to think but not willing to risk the money. However, from his posts it seems like he does know his golf.

I've got to say I'm not sure about banning people that don't fit the mold but IF he was shifting dodgey gear, for which there was certainly cause for suspicion then fair enough.

I just hope its because of his selling that he has been banned not because some don't like him.

I am a bit interested on this though. What did he do wrong sufficiently to get excluded? I have not read many posts that were offensive, just a bit dumb and 'me too'. Ok, loads to sell, but when was that a crime? No great intellect on show, but that applies to many of us. Not sure where it went so wrong? Answers?

Ps: Glad I am not a moderator. Really don't want to be in a position where you have to make this sort of decision. Fair play to those who volunteered.
He offered nothing of any value as a member with shallow, insincere or increasingly far fetched posts and to me, the dubious sales were the final straw.
With regards to the classifieds, the internet is a slow moving process for selling kit and to an extent, anonymous. Things can be posted and sold with money changing hands before the goods can even be inspected or verified. We (mods) decided enough was enough, the forum was becoming strewn with throwaway posts and this is effectively a little housekeeping, he isnt permanently banned...yet, but has got himself a week+ to wise up before he can sign on again.
If anyone has an argument to back the kid up then pm away, the decision was taken as a group of mods and backed by staff.

Hark at you!

Happy now that you have flexed your muscles on a 15 year old kid. Quite a sad and pathetic over-reaction when its just as simple to ignore the lad if thats what you want. It may have been fairer to PM the people who were dishing out abuse to him on an open forum.

Incidently I have also sold quite a few clubs on here and I have not been singled out for a banning order.

Also most posts on here now become "hijacked" so again why pick on one individual. I experessed my concerns over appointing moderators at the time and it looks as though I was correct. Shallow and far fetched posts, insincere, what like over 50% of the posts made? So is this a perception thing?

Whats next spelling and grammar correction?

This IS mono, the guy on rotten eggs has the same name, but more importantly, the same email address used to register with the GM Forum.

It IS Mono, he has used the same email address on there as he has used to register on the GM Forum.

Could the mods not have banned him from the for sale section only if that was the problem, and it would seem from this it was???

One word answers and spelling mistakes arent a crime. Im sure some of the folk on here with "thousands" of posts will have typed one word answers and misspelt things and just agreed with a previous post, Ive done it.

I feel sorry for the guy, but thats just my opinion.

I mean googleing his user name...........? whats that all about. He doesnt list golf so he mustnt play...... I read books but havent posted it anywhere online so that must mean I dont...

I dont think it makes the forum come across well as some of the abuse/posts , this one included, in regard to mono have been a bit close to the bone for my liking. If it was directed at some of the "senior" members it would be dealth with totally differently.

My 2 pence worth.

This I found interesting "We (mods) decided enough was enough". So which WE was that then? This is the first I've heard about it. If you don't want my opinion and leave me out of the loop, that's fine, but don't insinuate we were all involved in this decision.

If the dubious sales were a problem, why did you not just remove them?

Well it's certainly been a night of the lounge knives and in the interests of all (and certainly Mono) I would vote for the deletion of this whole thread

I found him annoying and didn't consider him a useful forum member however I just ignored him and advised others to do the same. A ban seems a little harsh even if temporary but hey ho, i couldn't really give a sh!t whether he's here or not.

Many of us are unhappy about what looks like victimisation of a forum user who was expelled just because other forum users, now weilding power, didn't like the guy.

Deleting the whole post serves nothing, better off out in the open like this.

Just needed someone to delete the ads if they were truly suspicious, which I dont think they were.

I think some folk are getting their Knickers in a twist over something that really isnt as sinister as they think it is.
Here are the facts, we as mods decided along with mike that a short ban was in order, noone mentioned a total permanent ban. None of us argued that he should be left to continue this ,so are all of us mods (with the exception of Twire who must not have gotten the email) wrong to have brought this to a head rather than let it fester?
Grammar and post content is up to you, it is a reflection on your personality. If you choose to use text speak or just agree with all posts made then fine, you offer nothing to the forum. If you sell gear that just does not seem right time and time again, then you are bringing that reflection upon the whole forum.

Birdieman , its not about wielding power, its about common sense. If someone does wrong, they need to learn with a measured approach. He didnt do anything serious enough to warrant a total ban, its up to him to come back on and conduct himself a little better.

I thought he was just a kid right ? Perhaps I got that wrong.

Don't let the forum degenerate into a " we only except like minded souls" type of place, that would be a shame.

He may not have had deep and meaningful posts, but on the other hand he may have learned a lot from you guys during his time on here, you may have improved him as a person and a golfer.

As far as I know he was never offensive to anyone or sought out an argument for the sake of it, so whats the problem ?

Morning all

After getting views from moderators who have been in touch with mono many many times about his for sale posts (nothing to do with his age, style of postings or views) I sent mono an email to his registered address last night explaining he has been banned for a week.

This suspension is not for anything other than abusing the facility of the for sale forum for which there are clear guidelines (drawn up from feedback from forum users) as to what is and isnt acceptable.

Everyone on else on the forum bar mono seems to be able to use the for sale section properly but despite forum members taking time to offer advice and guidance he has continued to treat the for sale section as his personal ebay shop but without the fees.

The fact he has just gone over to the TG forum to try and sell his stuff there (and already upset TG forum members in the process) makes me feel what we have done is justified

Unfortunately we don't have the facility to suspend someone from just one forum and not other so it's a blanket ban

In a week's time he will have the opportunity to rejoin the forum and hopefully treat the forum with the respect it deserves

I think the post needs putting to bed, mono it appears has brought this on himself.

It has been said that Mike asked questions and was refused awnsers. If he has something to hide then it starts to smell alittle dodgy, thus giving the forum a bad name.

I think maybe if his for sale posts are removed and he serves his ban and wants to return then so be it, if he wants to stay away then thats up to him also. (Would he be missed)?

It is unbelievably poor. Its not easy to navigate and they don't seem interested.
They've got less than 2000 posts in total and its been going for ages.

Good job I joined the best!!

With regard to Mono - I think the explaination from Mike says all we need to know. It is, after all, GM's Forum and if rules are being abused then action needs to be taken. Its not going to affect me because I'm not going to break any rules - I hope!! - and I hope Mono gets the message and returns to contribute. Then the whole process will have been worthwhile.
