Just a bit of feedback on my day at Mizuno Centre at Bearwood Lakes this morning.
First of all a big thank you to all at GM for giving me this fabulous opportunity and it was great to meet Mike, Jake and Dan from GM at the shoot. Big thanks also to Matt and Darren from Mizuno who battled manfully with my swing and fitted me for new clubs that I really can't wait to get my hands on. I truly do mean that.
We started with some control shots with my Callaway X2 Hot 6-iron (KBS Tour 100 shaft) to see where I was at. Good news was swing was pretty decent, distance not bad, accuracy good and dispersion tight. But Matt was sure he could up my numbers and get significant all round improvements, so next he got me to hit some more shots with the Mizuno DNA swing analyser attached to a club. That gave us three shaft options in conjunction with the Hot Metal model of the JPXs. Shafts were the new graphite 100 gram, the KBS Tour 90, and the XP 105.
All three went pretty well with carry numbers a good 10-12 yards up on good hits over my current clubs. The graphite's best hit was in fact 20 yards better with my best hit, but consistency wasn't as good and some quite mediocre shots too. We discounted that and in the end the best option was the XP 105 shafts but it was close run with the KBS Tour 90.
The strike was the thing that I noticed in particular when hitting the XP 105 shafts. The contact (even with a range ball) felt almost soft and slo-mo, as if I could feel the ball sinking into the face as I hit it. But the flight was also higher, and that added to the improved carry then it was win-win-win!
The clubs look the very smart with a combination of a polished and satin brushed steel finish. They sit behind the ball very nicely to my eye, and gave me a lot of confidence, even when feeling under pressure with everyone there in the studio.
I found Matt explained the process really well and I honestly left feeling like a kid who couldn't wait for Christmas Day to come.
Thanks again to all at Golf Monthly for this brilliant experience, big mention to Dan who was taking a lot of pics for the article throughout, now I know what Tour Pros feel like, and Jake for the interview and pieces to camera post-fitting. And once more a massive thumbs up to the Mizuno team for their friendly and professional service, and of course Bearwood Lakes for hosting.
