And why..

I'm trialling an Insert Odyssey against my Metal X Milled 7....
At the moment the MXM is just winning on solidness of strike.....
Plus it's the bigger #7 head against the V-Line....I do prefer a #7...
 
Milled or steel insert all day of the week for me personally.

I cannot figure out why a person would spend 250 quid on a putter which is gorgeously made from crafted steel but then hit the ball with a cheap bit of polyurethane.

Horses for courses though of course.
 
Currently insert, a lovely Odyssey. Why? Not sure to be honest. I tried one and liked it, does it need more than that? The ball doesn't fly off the face, it is not dull or flat, the sweet spot is across the face, not just a 2mm² dot. In classic 3 bears mode, it is just right.

If anyone is really offended by this then please feel free to send me a beautifully milled face Evnroll putter. I will pay postage :D. Not for my own benefit, obviously. Just to appease those who find inserts so offensive.

Milled Scottys look and feel incredible. But...

I've been using a Taylormade Spider for a few years and although it looks goofy, it is so much more consistent than I've found any putter.
 
milled putter with a machined / grooved face.

Feel that a smooth surface, or one that is worn smooth, is likely to slide off the face. Whether that's true or not, I don't care. The fact I'd think about it is enough.
 
Have never found an insert that didn't deaden the feel so milled for me.

Currently a Bettinard BB-1, a beautiful feel.
 
Never bothered me either way. I use Never Compromise putters my old Z1 had no insert my current Exchange 2 does both have a nice soft feel to the strike..

I tried insert putters that have no soft feel whatsoever but it is horses for courses some people cannot stand the feel of a very soft golf ball for example and have to have one that 'clicks'. See MetalMickie's comment above.
 
Been playing a scotty kombi s for years .Milled.
Bought an Odyssey Marksman ( insert) and can’t get the ball to the hole.
I think insert putters are ok on fast greens .
But my scotty is winning atm.
When we start again I will make a decision on the Odyssey.

Maybe it's a £250 piece of polyurethane with a bit of cheap metal attached ;)

Seriously though, I have a soft insert Odyssey but I have just bought a milled face Scotty so my answer is......I don't know.
 
Milled for me, hate the transition from metal to plastic on the face.
I love the horizontal grooves milled into my Rife Cayman Brac, definetley seem to work on the ball for me:)
 
Currently insert, but I am on the look out for a milled putter. Have a rife before and really liked it and for some reason decided to get rid, but looking to get one again just trying to find one at the right price.
