I'm not making excuses for my poor show today though the weather never helped i played some awful golf at times but i also played some( i say some sparingly) decent shots.

The leader was on 69 nett today so i think conditions didn't help nobody today.

I thought about where i went wrong and the mistakes i made so its water under the bridge now look forward to my next comp.

Bet you didn't play as rubbish as me today! 107, my wife once said to me, "you get good value from your golf, 'cos you play more shots", :) But amongst all those shots, some were really good and you wonder where it all goes wrong.
HNJ is so right in saying concentrate on lay up shots as every other. For instance, I was blocked out by a bush because of a poor third shot, all I had to do was to chip out left over a ditch on to the fairway for a shot to the green. What did I do,wasn't really concentrating and put it straight in the ditch

But I always remember, it's not all high handicappers that have disastrous holes. Today one of our members had a fifteen on a par three :o and he plays off 15!!

Golfmmad.

the first two medals i played in i was absolutely petrified!!off the white tees on our first hole you are required to drive over a wall and a road and down to the green ( par 4). Luckily i was playing with two older players and they helped keep me calm. I then hit the best drive of my life infront of 20 people down to the edge of the green :). since then i thrive when people watch me play and seem to play my best shots when im 'showing off'.
the best advice i can give really is to play with more expericenced players if possible so that you can see how they behave/react when they hit good and bad shots - this certainly has helped me.

the worst that will happen is a 0.1 increase. put this in perspective - you will be cut by 0.4 a shot, so you can lose that and more in one round.

medals are definitely about the head game and I doubt that anyone gets it right straight away. I'm still trying.

about the hardest thing is to keep playing your own game, and not get sucked into playing your 'partners'. last time out I got partnered with a speed hog, OK we got round in under 3 hours but it didn't do a thing for my golf.

Stuart, keep in there mate, they do get easier and here is the proof. Played in my 3rd medal this weekend after 2 previous bad ones. Still felt nervous on the first tee but my overiding thought was keep in play all the way round and if I got into trouble take my medicine and play the easiest shot to get back on the farway. Accept that a bogey isn't too bad, after all you have the shots with your handicap. Always better to have a 5 or 6 than an 8 or worse. Anyway, I ended up with a nett 68 (90 gross) for an overall 9th place. I also think the partners helped. It was very much a mutual admiration thing. Every half decent shot was applauded and encouraged. But most importantly, I was determined to have fun and enjoy it. After all it's better than getting dragged round Asda by the Mrs.

I wouldn't worry. I had an 8 in my medal and I was lying 3 in the greenside bunker. Thinned the bunker shot OB. Dropped (plugged of course) hacked it out and two putted.

We all do it I've been 2 under gross on the front 9 of a medal. Stood on the 10th tee and hit 3 balls OB, I proceeded to make a solid 11 :o
