mb clubs for 28 hc

Am I the only one that thinks this is a wind up?

I've stated before that the OP may be a bit of a wind up merchant, but he claimed not to be and I've no reason to disbelieve him. At the very least, his threads are usually well responded to*.

*(They do contain almost every issue that this forum has railed against in the past though.):D

Roll on 6pm.

Tell your mate my opening offer is £50. ;)

havent looked at this thread until today and havent read all the replies, my response to the OP is that when I started golf 45,000 years ago, there was only blades, we all played them, women, children, muscle men, wimpy men, occasional golfers, once a month golfers blah blah blah

when GI clubs appeared handicaps didnt plummet, course records remained unchanged, people still duffed thinned and shanked their way around a course.

I do believe however that it's a good thing to learn with blades....but I would say that wouldn't I

I think the best thing for your mate is to get some lessons. And try out blades and see what a pro says! He could be really good with blades for all we know, so he should go and try lots out!

...and I'd be tempted to agree with you

Well truth is he played pretty well, he even hit a few with the 3 iron well, only thing is they do punish you off centre, i had a few goes with them and they do not feel a million miles from ap2. I can see why low handicap players use them as the ball flight on them with a well struck shoot is amazing.

Define pretty well

The toe, bottom edge and hozel will go fine, same as any other club really.

On a more serious note, I played with a set of macgregor 1025m blades for about 3 years, and my ball striking isn't great. It's got better, but not exceptional (like Fundy!).

I thought I had middled my 5i loads of times. The strike marks looked fine, right out of the middle. But then one day, I was messing about with a mate i always played with on Friday afternoons. I thought for a change rather than hit my driver off the 11th tee, I'd hit a 5i and leave a longer shot in. I hit this 5i, and boy, wow, did it go, and the noise was something I had never heard. So much so, Steve said to me that he had never heard the club make that sound before. That was when I knew they had to go. If in 3 years they make that sound once, then there is a middle to the middle that I was not finding. That's blades for you!

I played off 12. Had done for near on 20 years. Yes, I could get it round with those clubs. Heck, I've still got them, up in the loft, but I'm not playing with them any time soon. I'm not good enough to get the best out of them. I can get it round fine, but there is so much more to golf than that.

I think looking into the bags of some of the tour players including major winners should give us a hint as to whether or not weekend golfers can get the most from a set of blades...

this guy has proven that playing blades wont necessarily mean you will play any worse.

first ever under handicap round. not to be sniffed at! ;) fair play !

i totally agree i would never buy blades, i like to feel confident over the ball, its great hitting a nice shoot with a ball for fun but if you are in a match they would scare me a bit. loving the ap2 iron i have im adjusting to the different in length due to loft over my old irons.

After I'd been playing a few years the club house had a set of Nike TW blades on offer at less than £300. My iron play was decent and I thought I'm ready. I tried the demo iron and it was ok but I was losing at least a club length on my TM R7's. Also if I was slightly off centre the results were punishing both in feel and performance. I thought I'd leave it a week or so however next time I visited the pro shop the irons had been even further reduced making me look at them again.

They were beautiful and I wanted them.

Before parting with my cash I thought I'd have one more go. My swing might have been off a bit and the results, had I been on the course, would have left me with a sick feeling in my stomach.

Common sense prevailed and I decided to keep the R7's a bit longer. A few years later I've moved to Ping i15's and now on reflection I can't see me ever needing a better iron as it is a better players iron with plenty of forgiveness when you need it. Even Westwood uses i20's and at one time KG Choi's weapon of choice was the Ping G15 which makes you think.

I was surprised by the fact that KJ used the G15's and when one of our better A team players bought some G15's I was surprised but as he said, why make the game harder than it needs to be?
