My friend has asked me if he could use a mb blades off a handicap of 28. I said im not sure but i think they are for low handicap players from 5 or below as they are not forgiving at all. That is what i have read online but check with a pro to get fitted first. What are your guys view i think its not a good idea

No right or wrong on this
I suspect he'll almost certainly struggle with them but you never know.
You need to be a decent ball striker to get the best out of them.

I use blades so can give you an honest answer. If he is prepared to work on his game and improve then they may well be o.k for him. They are not as bad as people think, sure if you hit one right out of the toe then it will not go very far but most clubs are like that anyway. One thing blades can do is really get you to focus on doing a good swing. If he is someone that is sort of a casual golfer that just turns up and plays and does not do any practice whatsoever then they will not be for him. There is no set rule really

I like this.

Moved to MP32's (Cut Muscle) at 18, went up to 19 before finishing the season at 16.

Got fitted for a set of MP63's (Muscle Back) just before the start of the season. Currently down to 13.8 (14) and should be in for an annual review because of my seasons scoring.

As ITR said above, if you're willing to put in the practice and learn then why not.

The way I look at it is this. In years gone by, you could only get blade irons. You had to learn to hit them properly or ou probably couldn't play the game effectively.

Modern GI ad SGI irons help with this, and I'm not saying you can't learn to strike the ball well with them, but the level of forgiveness on offer will give a much better result on a mis-struck shot.

Would I recommend a 28 H/C'er play blades, If they want to learn to hit them and are willing to put the time in why not? I would probably suggest they start with something a little more forgiving though.

To be honest at this stage of the golfing journey I think you need a degree of forgiveness imo. Hang about a few months until the new I range from Ping arrive. There might be some G25's going :whistle:

The newer MB/blade style clubs are more forgiving than the ones back in the day, don't get me wrong you will know if you hit a bad shot but there's quite a bit of tech even though there's not actually much there in the club head.

I think the biggest factor is would you feel confident looking down at a club thinking "i need to strike this well or it's going to go badly wrong"

Best bet would be to try some down a range and see how he get's on with them.

my junior clubs were a set of blades. 5, 7 and 9 iron. as I only played the odd game in the summer back then I wasn't cutting up fairways. in fact I probably didn't take a divot until someone said to hit down on the ball.

I wasn't afraid to use them. they were just golf clubs. some people instil a fear of bladed clubs without even trying to use them.

if you like them, buy them and enjoy! you wont set the world on fire whatever clubs you buy. just practice and you will soon be finding the middle of the club!

he just call me got a set of zm titleist! stiff shaft pre loved. He sent me a pic and they do look stunning i must admit dont think i would ever use mb clubs they look just they could cause pain

I had Ping I3 blades when I first started. They weren't proper blades though. They were hard to hit though, but I had great fun with them. I wouldn't recommend them to a starter, but if he's got those Titleist's cheap then it's fair enough

I started with blades and used them on my first few lessons. I preferred the way the felt to my new "forgiving" clubs but they just werent as shiny!

Your friend has excellent taste

Now he has to commit to learning to hit them properly :smirk:

" Titleist ZM Forged are high performance, muscle back forged irons with traditional feel, superior looks and shot control for the highly skilled player."

marketing speak for

"if you don't hit the middle with a square club face the ball will curve violently in flight..."

they look nice though, and he should just get on with it and enjoy them
