I'd be pretty annoyed if I turned up and the course hadn't been prepared. That's the minimum I'd expect for £1700 a year.

That being said no point moaning it cost you, play to the conditions.

You lost because you didn't adjust to conditions or just played plain worse. Saying that I would expect the greens to be swept after 8AM or whatever time your club says the course is open (more like the time after which greenkeepers don't have absolute priority anymore)

There's no doubt that slow greens suit higher handicappers more than low handicappers. Very fast greens put more onus on having a good stroke.

But I doubt this is the only reason that the OP lost, just a convenient one to moan about as it's preferable to blaming oneself.
