Machrihanish or Machrihanish Dunes? Anyone played both ?

Play both! Shame to go all that way and only play the one as both are great courses but very different. While your at it you could also take the short trip to Dunavert also well worth a visit!

Couldnt agree more Scott, both great tracks and both different. If there for an overnight playing both is essential IMO.

There has been a forum outing to Machrihanish the last 3 years (i think) and another one sorted this year late May.

The hotel is first class too

Definitely play both. Despite the fact that they are almost immediately adjacent to one another, they are, in my opinion, very different in character. Machrihanish Championship course is an older, more established 'traditional' links course and the Dunes is very 'natural' in terms of feel and layout. Would be a shame to travel all that way and miss out on one of them.

stay clear of the dunes - it`s a coup ...the original is by far the better course..probably better condition too

Euan came off crying because the Dunes beat him up! Ignore him! :ears:

Over time the Dunes will become the stronger and better of the two courses. I love both but as Scott says make sure you take in Dunaverty as well. Dunaverty is what the term "hidden gem" was designed for.

I preferred Old Mach to the Dunes. Had an absolute blast there. Great course and its over the road so you can just walk on. I have a 50% off voucher if you want it.

If I’m completely honest I was slightly under whelmed by both, but I did play them in March and neither was in great condition.

I would go back and give them a 2nd chance though. Shame they are both a good 6 hour drive from me.

That's cos yer heid is up your behookie. Machrihanish is easily on a par with Western in terms of quality and its a better layout. Western is presented better though.
