M40 Pub

Yes indeed it is - but the potential consequences are not the same

Really ? A car is just a dangerous on any road in the hands of a drunk driver - if anything it's more dangerous on urban and rural roads because on motorways whilst the speed is high you are all going the same way so collision speeds are less than a head to head 30 - 40 mph on urban or rural roads.

But it seems your ok with the Harvester serving alcohol but not Weatherspoons ? Very strange

This is the thing about this sort of discussion. Many who see no harm in it because they wouldn't partake won't even admit that there is a slightest increase in the risk - when is it absolutely obvious that there must be - and roll out all sort of comparisons when there isn't really any precedent to go by - and so there can be no statistical evidence. But still it is demanded. It does somewhat baffle me as to why.

The risk is the same as other pubs around the country - in fact the risk is greater in urban areas ( factually proven and you get told on advanced driver courses )

Someone has already told you the precedent - the harvester on the M1 which sells alcohol and the other establishments along the motorways as stated by the RAC.

So any incidents been reported from the Harvester on the M1 ?

If you want to talk about risk in drink driving then how big a risk do you think there are in golf clubs - but you want to avoid that

You still won't realise that this establishment is for the food and also it's going to be served by more than the motorway services.

I live in a rural area with many single track roads.
If I had the misfortune to meet a drunk driver [or a speeding driver] I would rather meet them on a motorway going in the same direction as me than head to head on a single track road.
Motorways are the safest roads.

The same point could be made, that someone who has a thought in their mind will stick to that even when the general consensus appears to be the complete opposite. Anything can happen, from the people i've known to drink drive, its when they've been designated driver and got tempted. I would very much doubt lads will be going on a motorway services drinking session and get tempted. But i have no stats to back it up, so i guess i must be wrong?
