Losing weight/fitness thread

6 miles in 55mins last night, 9.09mins per mile.

One of my hardest runs to date, legs felt heavy from the start and just never shook it off.
Think I went too heavy on legs at the gym on Thursday night and it had a detrimental effect.
Just delighted to get something done in the end.

Rest day today, then gym on Monday/Tuesday.
Travel home from work on Wednesday and take it from there.

This is why I don't do any leg weights. I just can't risk not being able to run.

I am still a heavy (old) fella, despite my efforts over this last year, about half a stone give or take from my goal weight and my business partner (fit 30 year old) has decided our annual charity challenge will entail riding an old tandem from Manchester to London in June in three days

At 250 or so miles, it'll be a challenge, but with a twenty grand target, it's maybe the thing I need to get me focussed on my own final stretch.

Wish us luck!

Never ridden a tandem. I'm guessing that a bit of practice at getting the hang of it will be necessary, as well as the general fitness requirement.
80 miles a day isn't ridiculous, as long as you're used to being in a saddle for a while - I would get some gentle miles done on a normal bike to find a saddle, footwear and clothing that's comfortable over much shorter distances and then transfer them over to the 2-up as required. Long distance cycling is more about the logistics of comfort and food/drink as it is about fitness.

I have a bike in the garage I last uncovered about 3 years ago, so yes, I have some work to do. Used to being in a motorcycle saddle for long days, so have the padded shorts, but it will be some challenge. I'll be on the back for sure. Grit and determination will get me through rather than being ready for it I would bet.

To be fair though, we have secured a kit sponsor and support vehicle, so will have everything on hand to make it work. The challenge is to visit 10 businesses, although most are in Manchester and London, so will look to do the Manchester lot on day one, plus get a good way south, then day two try to get as close to London as possible, then do the other visits. The spread between stops in Manchester is much greater distance than London, so as long as we are close on day two, we will make the challenge. The plan is 80/120/50.

Anyone want to donate/lend a turbo trainer 😅

Was just to finish when I first started, but going to try and get under 2 hours now 😬😬
Not sure if it’s a wise decision…
Looking at your times it's definitely a possibility, I've not managed it in almost 10 attempts so I'll be gutted if you do it first time around, good luck I guess :ROFLMAO:

At least if you are on the back you can have a sneaky rest and your partner won’t know 😂
