Losing weight/fitness thread

How many rest days do you take, if any? And what does a rest day look like? Sedentary or just no huge exertion?

I’ve been walking at least 10k steps (averaging 14k in 2025) a day for a long while. I do weight sessions 3-4 days a week and use the cross trainer on alternative days. Plus maybe a game of badminton and the odd swim each week. Over the last 4 weeks I’ve only had one proper day off where my only activity was walking. Not a conscious decision, just motivation is high.
3 rest days from running but try to put a short bit of weight training in.

Nights not going amazing. The takeaways weren't bad. Ate smaller

However snacking non stop, eaten most of the stuff I bring in by midnight then just peckish

Going for an emergency cuppa soup to hopefully just starve it off

Either way this week is a right off. Focus on long term

Hoping it's mainly a weekend thing. Longer hours, no dinner at home before I leave so eat here then hungry where as back to weekday tomorrow, meal with wife then simmer meal at work.

Is nice getting the comments tho from people who ain't been in for a while and comment on how much weight I've lost

I suspect some of the snacking may be down to habit and/or boredom. Take something in to distract yourself, puzzle book, fidget spinner, anything to stop you instinctively reaching for the tuck shop. And if possible, move desk or the tuck shop, seems too easy for you to reach over and grab something. If you had to walk to get crisps, it might make you think twice.

Unfortunately even on the furthest region of control it's not that much of a walk, think I'm on the second closest tonight. Can't move the system 😂

I downloaded a sudoku app last night that killed a few mins

Fortunately the current trainee is a complete Jonah... So it's been busy.

Great to see the weight loss!

Your problem seems to mirror my long term problem and you're eating when n ot hubngry, so it's not your belly telling you to eat, it's your head.

Only way to get through this is not to act on that impulse and the easiest way is to replace the crap from the tuck shop with something else.

Yes, it'll be boring.

So last night I took in

Protein flapjack
Banana
Nuts
40g of minstrels for a treat
Apple
Raisin

Got my dinner at work etc

I had smashed all that by 11 pm 😂

If you’re set on the takeaway (I would be if everyone else was having) would it be better to make a healthier choice and eat the full thing? Could possibly stave off hunger and reduce/stop the snacking.

So Saturdays take out was chicken madras (I don't do the cream curries) , half rice with my mate and popadom on side. No naan or sides

Last night was a Turkish , fancy one. My mate and did a mix up to have half chicken and half lamb with rice and veg

Problem we have is we got in at 1800, by 2000 that's dinner and then we there until 0630

Where as weekdays I'll have a dinner at home with my wife at 19:00 and then take a simmer meal for about midnight so spreads the food out

Night weekends defo the worst

A lot of time to kill where you can’t distract/remove yourself from temptation. Difficult I imagine. If it were me I’d be taking a yoghurt bowl or something, rammed with oats and fruit to have later on. Or even… order the naan, save some of the madras and then have that later in the shift. Probably fewer calories than constant snacking.

That's what I used to do before but convinced myself no order less this time lol next time sod I'd I'll get the naan

The night battles proving harder than expected still

I woke up at 1330 yesterday, didn't want to be up until 1600 and made the mistake of getting up. So extra tired.

Had dinner with the wife 1900 after kids bed. Got in my car 1930.. by 2000 I was hungry and reached my lunch and grabbed my fridge raiders.

By 2330 I had my dinner thinking right dinner will help, keep me out the shop .

Starving at 0230. Colleague off to McDonald's, go on grab me a cheeseburger and chips. No chips (madness but thought that would help) still hungry

Determined not to smash the crisps I drove to the petrol garage, grabbed a loaf of bread made myself toast

Positive is now I have a loaf of bread for the rest of the week for when this happens again tomorrow and Wednesday.

I knew nights would be the hardest but didn't think it would be this hard

(On another positive since having the toast I actually feel full up.. even with tonight's fun and games this "24 hour period" is 2375 calories, on a goal worked out by the app of 2310 cals a day so it's not a complete loss)

This post is definitely in the wrong thread 🤣

Hungry an hour after dinner, another dinner 4 hours later and then starving 3 hours after that. The words in bold just aren't ones you can use - they're not true.

And if all that crap added up to the cals stated, pass that app to whoever pays the wages and you'll be a billionaire by the month end, because that's tosh too.

Not everyone can effectively diet, just be happy mate.

You need to see a dietitian (real one not an internet fad) and look at what you are eating. You may be consuming calories but they are obviously not the right sort as you shouldn’t be hungry 30 minutes after eating.

Unfortunately the meds I've been on since 2011 increase hunger, it's a known side effect.

Ah yes I've checked I forgot to add the toast so that'd 350 more cals (3 slices, clover and Bovril)

My coach has set my calorie limit for a day at 2050 calories. I'm reasonably active, run 3 times a week (slowly building distance), gym 2 times a week, at least 1 walk and 2 rounds of golf.

Surprised 2310 is going to achieve much weight lose, looks more like a maintenance value to keep weight stable.

Are you staying hydrated? I drink at least 2 litres of water a day. Downside to that is i wee like a racehorse lol.

The best piece of advice i ever got was when im feeling hungry to drink a pint of water instead of reaching to the fridge or cupboard. It stops the urge to eat.

He is much heavier than you - I suspect as you are running and PJ87 isn't so he will need more calories than you. 2050 is also very low for an active lifestyle so might not be the most healthy target.

Do they make lunchboxes with a time-lock on? If not, they should, that would be genius. Just set what time you want to eat and it's impossible to open until that time. 😁
