Life changes from generations tho doesn't it tashy

Look at your work then old pits.. I imagine very labour intensive so that kept you fit and healthy. Compare that to modern jobs, lots of computer based. I mean my job is all computer play, if I want the physical side that you had I have to commit to going to the gym on top of work and such

Also the foods are more readily available, it's cheaper to eat nuggets and chips in the freezer than it is to eat vegetables is another part of the problem
To be honest PJ, it could not be more unhealthier. The average age of a miner dying was one of the worst in the country re occupation. The working conditions re temperature, dust, noise vibrating tools. I was on about this to a guy whilst playing golf. I know of dozens of guys who have replacement hips and knees. Chuck in three shifts and sleep at times was a problem.
Part of the problem with the lads was work hard play hard. There were more overweight miners than normal weight miners. One of the advantages of the pits closing is it has put inches on the “ruler of life” for a lot of the lads.

Lazy argument. Our mid day snack is a banana each, 10 bananas cost about £1.50 - £2.00 each week. How much is a Mars Bar (other chocolate bars are available)

Fruit and vegetables are very expensive. Compared to nuggets and chips. It's not a "lazy argument" it's a proven argument that experts have been saying for a while

Go to Iceland you can get bags of nuggets dirt cheap and chips. Oven 20 mins there's a meal

However fresh vegetables and fruit £2 for grapes £1.50 for blueberries £1.50 apples .. yes the snacks are reasonable but the actual meals are a lot more expensive for healthy food.. plus the time it takes to prepare and cook compared to just chucking chicken nuggets in the air fryer

A well informed article here

A calorie deficit is the only sustainable way to keep weight off.

Theres many fad diets out there that simply arent sustainable. How often do we hear people say " oh i'm back on this diet"?

Do you lot take much notice of those BMI charts? According to the NHS I should be around 12 stone but I’d look like I had malnutrition if I was that light.
I’d take it with a pinch of salt to be honest, it’s only the belly fat I’m worried about, I’ve had loads of various Medicals and it’s the only thing that’s been mentioned to me.

I've never looked at BMI or stuff like that. I only looked at the nhs calculator to see when i dropped out of the 'clinically obese' category and worked down to 'not quite ready to die'

I just used scales and a mirror. You can see what's broken and its self evident what needs done to fix it (much like filming your slice on the range, you see what's wrong and the fix is clear. The harder part is doing it)

The trouble is, chips and nuggets is empty calories which will, in a lot of cases, lead to snacking on said chocolate. Get a bag of mince, tinned toms, onions and peppers and you have the basis of a few meals for not too much money.

As a person who loves their food, a takeaway on a weekend as well as a few pints, going on a strict diet doesn’t really appeal. However, after gaining a bit of weight over the last few years, needs must. Not being one for breakfast and usually only eating a sandwich for lunch I decided to give one meal a day a try.

In the past 25 weeks I have lost 2 1/2 stones. The meal is usually a home cooked meal of normal (to me - so pretty large) portions. Nothing is off limits. Spag Bol and garlic bread tonight for example. Once/twice a week we’ll have a takeaway or a meal out too. And I still enjoy a few pints at football or after golf (but no sausage bun any
more).

Plus I eat 2 watermelons a week, which I chop up and keep in fridge if I’m ever peckish and to quell sweet cravings. But that is it. I’ve
had no crisps or sweets for nearly 6 months but still have the occasional desert if we’re out or for birthdays etc.

It doesn’t feel like much of a change and has been easily manageable. Although, I used to love a packet of Sports Mixture or large bag of crisps on a night watching the tv and I have entirely cut them out. So I’d guess this is what I’d attribute the weight loss to.
Genuinely I would feel sick and dizzy by around 2-3pm if I tried this. I can't stand feeling hungry. Typical day for me is Weetabix or Belvita at around 9ish, Tesco or Wenzels (bakery) meal deal at 12:45ish - just sandwich, crisps and drink. And then as I mentioned earlier, evening meal at around 8pm which would be either a pasta dish, salmon & mash, fajitas, risotto - anything we can cook at home easily really. We have takeaways twice a week, usually Friday night and Saturday or Sunday.

I'm getting so much better at smaller meals during the actual day since having the twins

When I'm not at work I'm not that bad

When I'm at work I bored eat tho especially nights. Me and crisps have a special relationship

I have a pack with my lunch, as I say, it's the meal deal. If I wanted to cut them out, I'm not sure what I would have. I don't like fruit so that rules that out. Chicken bites would get boring to have every day, plus the packs are very small.

Yeah I thought I’d be the same. But nope. Never felt dizzy/sick. I do drink a lot of water throughout the day though. So maybe being hydrated has something to do with it? If I am hungry, I eat some watermelon. Or a raw carrot or two. I couldn’t face a ‘diet’ - and this to me doesn’t feel like one, as I’m eating main meal wise what I was eating before. Plus I didn’t want to deprive myself of a few pints and a takeaway of a weekend - otherwise… what’s the point…

I only ever ate a sandwich at lunch (and that was only if I managed to get out for one), so that’s not a great loss. I do miss crisps on an evening though. And jelly/gummy sweets. But occasionally get nachos as a starter if we’re out for a meal, which semi puts the pangs at bay.

Ditto to that

If I start to get down to the recommended weight I start to look very gaunt in the face.

I thought they pretty much stopped using BMI as it was flawed against people who were more muscular or naturally more heavy-set. In my Bupa health checks they tend to just use waist-to-height ratio. Generally this number suggests that I'm not tall enough.

I have never been fat (6’ tall and never more than 12 stone). However, after giving up my office job of 20 years back in May and getting back to a job that requires me to be on my feet most of the day, I have lost a half stone. Diet or drinking habits no different, just more energy burned during the day.

Lost 8 stone and run around 25 miles per week, on track for 1000 miles this year. I definitely have slip ups, but I don't consider myself on a diet, just know what i can run off and what I should steer clear of. I'm at 14st 12lb at the moment, would love to get to 13st. I'm 6ft 2, so not sure how I'd look any leaner than that.
