went fishing at weekend and struck up a conversation with an 'ex-golfer'. apparently he grew up with richard finch and naturally got in to golf. he got down to single figures then one day did the first nine in 5 under.then the back nine in 15 over !! went home and placed an advert in the local press and sold the lot (all taylor made products) that was 10 years ago and he has never played since.its a sad tale with no happy ending.

As they say, 'don't knock it 'till you've tried it'.

In a story like this there's usually more to it than people let on. Golf's one of those sports which this is probably more common depending on your purpose, goals and/or motivations.

If it's about consistant improvement, never dropping below a certain standard etc then you're lining yourself up for snappin' the driver over your knee.

If it's about some fun, some air and the occasional magic moment then I can't see the point. Walking the dog can only provide so much entertainment.

Most of the time I can still laugh my @rse off when I have a 'comedy golf' moment( I spend a lot of time giggling to myself as a relative beginner therefore). Life's too blinkin' short.

May be he had done this before a few times, and was now a nervous wreck waiting for it to happen on every shot. Why put yourself through this angst again and again, when you can go drown maggots peacefully by the river with a few cans.

On the other hand LOSER LOSER LOSER!

This proverb comes from an old Native American Indian and it could have been written with a golfer in mind:

Don't let yesterday use up too much of today. - Cherokee

Think about it.
