I’ve now had 8 lessons over about 6 months, and have finished the ‘set’ I’d prepaid for.
Can’t help but feel I got all the value out of the first 3 lessons – grip, stance, swing down not through, and since then its been hit 2 with your 9iron, 2 with your 7iron, 2 with your 5iron, 2 with your 3hybrid. Chip 2 with 9iron. Very good, now do it again. Ooh very good you’re really coming on.

He’s a nice enough bloke, but I’m just wondering, as I want to keep improving, what about trying someone else for next batch of lessons? Or is that gonna be like startin over?

One thing I would recommend, is a 9 hole playing lesson. After that, your pro should know your weak points and be able to customize your lessons to suit.

I think the thing you have to be aware of is that different pro's may have different styles of teaching and different ideas of how the golf swing works. So they may change something that your first teacher has been trying to do with you.

A new pro shouldn't change what's working but should also spot what isn't. That said I guess that as in everything, we all have our pet ways and pros are no different.

I've had lessons of three or four different pros, partly due to costs round here. I got on with them all and each has added something; whether they would like what I've done with it since is another matter.

That's whats got me worried!
I was all set to try somewhere else, someone thats had a few recomendations - the original was picked solely due to being closest!
Then i read on here about ball position - been taught ball always same distance inside left heel, and right foot moves further away for longer irons.

might try the 9 hole lesson idea - i did fancy the playing lesson, but £100 put me off! If he'll do 9 for £50 might give that a go.

£100 for a playing lesson????? Where you playing - one of the Open courses or something. That seems exorbitant. The pro I use is relatively expensive (£41 per hour but I booked 5 at £33 ph) and although I've never used him in particular for a playing lesson I know it would never be that much.

I am very happy with the pro I'm using as he has made a huge difference to my swing compared with where it was two years ago but we still have a long way to go. That said I have used my club pro as well (quick fix etc) but I don't totally like his methods (compared to the other guy) and find that I hit alright for a while afterwards but it doesn't seem to stick.

My advice would be to try the other guy if he comes recommended although I definitely be checking his price list first. If he is too expensive shop around. Its like finding a good pub. Its not always the one right on your doorstep but its one you'll keep going back too
