The ladies at my club get a way better deal.

There are no mens days, but ladies get all but a couple of hours on Tuedays.

When theres a mens open or big comp the tee times are in slots so members can go out before during or after a medal. The mens club champs where two mornings. The ladies had the whole day and i mean the whole day.

There is a Ladies open on this Saturday and again the tee is booked for the whole day, and this after the course was closed for two weeks for the Curtis cup a ladies comp;)

seriously?! clubs like this exist?! I thought my place was stuffy, but to refuse to allow ladies to play on certain days is ridiculous. Ladies can play any time they like (as well as having Tuesday morning's to themselves), and can certainly come into the bar anytime they like.

They may or my not get a better deal, but 2 of your arguments are ridiculous!

Logistics (changing-room space) could well also have an effect on how the club deals with Ladies comps too.

Everybody is equal at our club, and always have been. Men + Ladies pay the same fee, with only the Juniors+Youth paying a reduced membership fee, but they still have equal playing rights. We are lucky to have 36 holes, so no problem in getting a game somewhere on the course when section comps etc are going on.

Hello there,
I lived in England for year and played several golf courses around Worcestershire. I was very sorry to see that many clubs don't let women play on the course except on tuesdays or mondays. Others have a rule saying women aren't allowed in one of the clubhouse's bars after 7 pm or another that had one women's bar and one men bar plus a course for both sexes. (Posh club)

What is your opinion on this discrimination towards ladies?
Do you prefer it like that? Do you think it's unfair? Would you change it?
Please, no need for macho's :)

PS: I'm a 15 y o girl

I've made my view on this pretty clear on here a few times. It's sad. What's also sad is that in clubs where notionally women have equal rights (and pay the same) in practice we get a second-class service compared with the men.

Someone will be along shortly to tell you why men get a worse deal....

We arent actually banned from play on any day, but with the number of men wanting to play in comps the tees are booked for the most of the day especially on a saturday around 180 take part in the saturday comps, in groups of 3 and 10 min intervals, that works out at 10 hours, ladys can play after 6pm.

What arguments are they then, i'm just stating facts on what happens at my club?
why is stating a fact ridiculous?
And who joins a club for lockers space? by the way they have the same size locker room for less lady members.

Ladies might get a raw deal at some clubs but not at mine old boy.

Great to get so much answers.

In fact, yes I was speaking of Sunningdale (though that's not around worcestershire) and Blackwell and other clubs I can't remember the name of.
Let me put my story in context:
I'm Belgian, so what might not seem as lady discrimination for you, might for me. This is because our medals/comps are ALWAYS mixed, except the club champs and the weekly ladies' and men's day. Ladies have the same access to the bar and course.
So last year, I had a golf team in England with which we'd play matches. I would sometimes feel uncomfortable with the dress code (because I wasn't used to it) but don't take me wrong, I have nothing against it. But what would also make me feel uncomfortable was that one day, on a match in Sunningdale, my coach told me I wasn't supposed to be allowed in the clubhouse and on the course. Now, you'll tell me it's a men's course and Sunningdale has a Ladies' course, so I should've played the Ladies' course, but it was a match against men. Thus, it would have been impossible for me to play on the Ladies' course!
Another time, we were in Blackwell's club house, and a mate from my team told me: "watch out, you're not allowed to cross this line in 3 minutes". I thought that was a bit ridiculous but oh well. He then went on telling me women's timetables on the course.

That was what lead me to ask this question.
I do realise it's not like that everywhere, really isn't, though the general golf habits in Belgium are somehow different and less strict. Let's say different to stay objective :p

I've seen on a few clubs websites, that they have posted links to the equality act and how it affects what can and cannot happen at their clubs. Was talking with a colleague earlier in the week, and he was telling me that the magistrates weren't going to renew the liquor licence, unless the clubs ended its rules on men's vs women's bars and lounges in the club.

I know I have posted saying that I'm not a member anywhere yet, but hopefully, the place I end up joining wont be full of dinosaurs and will let us socialise freely!

I mentioned this today to last years lady captain and another lady they both said, its the way we prefer things.

It seems the issue has never been raised and the lady members are quite happy with the status quo, they also said that a local club had introduced equality and a lot of the ladies there had left and moved to our club.
The club house has equality except on presentation nights.

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe you were mis-informed.

Sunningdale certainly welcomes Lady visitors. It has held many Ladies tournaments there, including 4 Womens British Opens.

Sunningdale Ladies Golf Club is a completely separate club that just happens to be situated alongside. It welcomes visitors of any sex and, now, Gentleman and Lady members are treated identically - a little while ago, men were 'Associates;.

I don't believe there any restrictions on the ability of Ladies entering the clubhouse, though the dress code for certain areas only covers men.

Muirfield does not (well, did not) allow ladies in the clubhouse but, as it is pretty much an open changing room, the sights might be a tad distasteful anyway.

There is a Ladies open on this Saturday and again the tee is booked for the whole day, and this after the course was closed for two weeks for the Curtis cup a ladies comp;)

To claim that Ladies get a better deal because the tee is booked for the whole day for a Ladies Open is ridiculous argument #1. Lady members, not playing in the Open, are just as hampered as the Men. It's the running of the Ladies Open (compared to the running of the Men's Open) that's the problem, not perceived benefits to the ladies.

To infer that Ladies get a better deal because the course was closed for 2 weeks for the Curtis Cup is also ridiculous. Lady members were equally inconvenienced. And what if it had been the Walker Cup? It would still have been closed for 2 weeks, but for a Men's tournament!

I'm afraid that your views appear to me to be that of a sexist old-fart. I hope that isn't the case, but fear it might well be.
