I know they had a bit of wind down at the Open early on yesterday but by the time I got home and started looking at the event it was as calm as a mill pond.

so just a few stats

FIR: 47% (6.58 fairways out of 14)
GIR: 57%
sand saves: 42%
putts: 1.65 or 29.7 per round.

So what do you think of those stats?

I know its the Open but i would have expected a little better.

I was there for Tuesdays practice and the weather was very much like yesterdays and I am suprised that the stats are that good. Unless you see how difficult St Georges is in the flesh, with a 20+ mph wind blowing, you wouldn't believe it. The greens have massive undulations amd the fairways are narrow - a single figure amateur would, imo, do well to keep his score down to 110

Have you ever hit a drive down the middle of a links fairway?
Where did it finish?
Likewise with approach shots.
As they say, never say good shot on a links until the ball has stopped rolling.

I wish :o but an old hacker like me who doesn't hit it very far has to make do with much worse figures than these, although my sand saves of 23% isn't to shabby. :p :p

I know its difficult but the wind yesterday wasn't extremely bad, and many of the players were taking irons of the tee. I just thought the stats would be slightly higher. fairways hit today is about the same as yesterday.

I think you will find a lot of players are hitting fairways but they are just running off them. Theres hardly a flat lie.
