Didn't know you followed kids golf mate. He's doing a degree while playing golf in the states, what's not to like.

Well I worked 3 years at my previous club alongside the JLO, as assistant to him
Running the junior team and junior comps
So you hear names of others doing well at both Northumberland and Durham union clubs

Interesting topic.

My 7 year old loves sport, football, cricket, etc. He naturally wants to be a footballer, and he's Ok to be fair, but at this early stage I'd say his natural ability is with a golf club. Already has a good set up / swing and can hit his Dunlop* driver about 110 yards (I can hit it 150 so 110 for a kid, I figure is decent).

I'd love him to get the opportunity that some of the other young golfers mentioned already have had, but even if he just ends up being a solid low handicap golfer, I'll be delighted for him.

*I know - Dunlop - I will invest in something a little more appropriate when he outgrows his current clubs.

My 10 year old loves golf, has lesson and uses Dunlop clubs. They grow so fast and spending £499 on a set of pings to last 18 months is way too steep. I am looking at getting him the Cobra Jr set for his birthday in December which are £299 but hoping to get them in a sale or second hand. The main problem is they are driven by brand rather than what they need. There also isn't a great range available for kids by the brand leaders.

A nice branded Junior golf bag would probably help as you cannot see what brand of club is being used.

I keep saying to him no one is really interested in what club you hit that great shot with just that you hit a great shot.

He hits his driver 180 yards and his 7 Iron 100 yards. What really gets me is his short game, his putting is awesome, like no fear and his short approach chipping and pitching is great. He is playing a local EZGO competition this summer. 6 rounds over 4 months at 6 local courses. It is great he is 4th in his age group and is having to play more than his home course and all the learnings that come from that.

All he wants to do is play golf all the time, we played this Saturday and he wanted to play Sunday as well but the wife said he had had a lesson as well as round so he needed to wait till next week :D
