I was just wondering if your 'half full or half empty' affects your golf game?

After a brilliant round of 65 in the US Open young Rory (22) leads by 3. Yet, there are still some 'half empties' who are almost suggesting that he will probably fall away as he has done before.
Do you half empties also predict a collapse of your own game during a round?

You get to the last few holes of your round and get an 8 and you finish with 3 doubles and a treble.

"I knew that was going to happen. It started off too well :("

Does self doubt ruin your card and are the lower handicaps more of the "half full" brigade.

I personally don't care what's happened in the passed and cant wait to see Rory win by a bucket load.

Always half full Bob.
My biggest pain is the thought of shanks stood over a 50 yard pitch. No matter how well I have been striking the driver, long irons and putter, if I have a 50 yard pitch you can bet your house the hosel has crossed my mind before I've hit the ball.

Thinking I am going to shank it is part of my pre shot routine. Even my partners have noticed that if there are people at 45 degrees to me, I wait till they move away. Once you have suffered from them the fear remains with you.

Stupid thing is that it rarely happens but when it does it is never followed up with another one. If I get the thought and feel like I am not quite set up correctly I know I should step away and do it again but the odd time when I dont, it happens.. Usually when I have bombed one 372 down a soggy fairway and have a great chance of an up and down for birdie.

nice to see others fear the shanks, after a sleepless night and cold sweats all bloody night im finding myself in a position where i want to skip tomorrows game.

On the OP question, im normally in between. If i have a good card going doubt kicks in, and if i have a dreadfull card going i seem to be able to switch off and kick it up a gear.

Similar to Brendy really.

I'm half full and always feel like I can strike a good drive or long to mid iron, even if I don't very often.

But when I get around the green, my fears of duffing chips and missing putts takes over, no matter how positive I try and be.

So you are actually a half full and half empty man then ? :D

:D No, although it does sound like that. I still think I can hit a good chip, but the subconcience takes over on my downswing I think!

I dont think the half full/empty thing really applies to me (although I dont like those that wallow in their own pool of self pity).

What screws me up is my expectation to shoot par every time I go out there. After say 5 holes and being about the same over, time after time I spend the next 13 holes grinding away to save point 1. Oddly, I have only sufferred one point one in about my last 20 competitions. However, I have not been cut alot in that time either (0.6 I think).

It just seems to be a subconcious comfort zone, churning out mid to high scores in the 70's time after time.

Nothing to do with being a half empty imo, but in sport and golf in particular a lot of trends repeat themselves and as of yet Rory has shown no appetite of knowing how to win a golf tournament from in front, and until he does I will still be expecting him to lose from in front.

Masters was one of my biggest pay days of the year and I expect come Sunday night Ill be in a similar position of having opposed McIlroy again, imo, if he does win it is likely he wins by a large margin, don't see him winning a close one from in front personally
