Is it still in Arsene they trust?

So many people are jumping on the Wenger-bashing bandwandon. Last I knew the season finishes in May not August so why dont we wait to see what happens then?

The truth is that Wenger is doing a remarkable job, people forget the trophies that he has won, the wonderful players that he has helped uncover and develop over the years, the stadium and training ground that has been built.

Yes they have some money to spend now on players, but the Arsenal board will not allow Wenger to pay obscene wages to players (even if he wanted to) and frankly why should he?

Hleb, Toure, Flamini, Adebayor, Nasri, etc are greedy mercenaries and if I blame Wenger for anything its his failure to purchase decent human beings as well as decent players. What we need and what the game needs are characters like Bergkamp, Henry, Le Tissier, Shearer, Scholes, Giggs, Neville, etc. Players that play for the club and refuse higher wages elsewhere not like these greedy little scroats :mad: :mad:

Wenger is trying to manage the club in the right way and he should be applauded for that.

The EPL is more competitive than ever with the likes of Liverpool and City investing stupid amounts of money in the hope that it brings success. This is Wengers toughest year and if he qualifies for the CL for the 16th time then IMHO it will be his best ever achievement. Yes a cup or 2 would be nice, but its also important to be competing year on year, develop youth, play attractive attacking football whilst keeping the club financially stable.

Yes, I still believe in Wenger. Call me deluded but it wouldnt surprise me if we went and strung 10 straight wins together from here.
 
If he can't shore up the defence by deadline then it's going to be a long season for the Gooners.
No sense in shipping Whinger out yet but if they don't make the KO stages of the CL and they're not in the hunt at Xmas then I'd be amazed if they didn't let him go.

I'm not one for bashing Wenger for 6 trophyless seasons - the first 5 of them are only to be expected because of the lack of competitive funding. But last year and this are different. We moved to the new stadium to make us financially competitive. I understood that it would take several years to come to fruition. Last year we could have won the title for the sake of £15-£20 million. Then Nasri would have been more likely to stay. But the board didn't know when to loosen the purse strings. Now they have to. NOW, not after it's too late and we've gone past the point of no return.

The board have been far to weak, just accepting his help over the last few years and thinking he can do everything for them. But he can't. Ferguson can't, Dalglish can't, Guardiola can't. We need Wenger to target his players and the board to buy them. He has done a remarkable job, but at the moment the ship is cracking and showing signs of leaking. If the leaks aren't sealed, the whole ship will sink.

Because of the need to compete. The whole thing about moving grounds was to make us stronger. The whole idea of bringing in foreign investors was to make us financially competive again. We don't have 'some' money, we have 'plenty' of money.

Hleb, Toure, Flamini, Adebayor, Nasri, etc are greedy mercenaries and if I blame Wenger for anything its his failure to purchase decent human beings as well as decent players. What we need and what the game needs are characters like Bergkamp, Henry, Le Tissier, Shearer, Scholes, Giggs, Neville, etc. Players that play for the club and refuse higher wages elsewhere not like these greedy little scroats :mad: :mad: What Arsenal need are good professional footballers. Nasri isn't a mercenary, he's a professional that was offered a 300% pay rise. If Arsenal had even gone halfway to matching the offer Nasri would have had a decision to make, as it was it was a no brainer.

Wenger is trying to manage the club in the right way and he should be applauded for that. The right thing for Arsenal is to be Premiership champions again. Wenger can achieve that if the handcuffs are taken off.

We were the best team in the country until Chelsea upped the financial stakes. Since then Man Utd have gambled their whole existance in keeping up, and so far it is paying off for them. That's two teams stronger than us. Now we have to add Man City and Liverpool as two more teams with more financial clout than us. It is not Wenger's job to keep us financially stable, it's the job of the board.

I also believe in Wenger, if he is given the right leadership from above. We need to keep a great youth policy, but we need to add experience as, when and where it is needed.

Kroenke and his wife are meant to be richer than John Henry.

Usmanov is meant to be more wealthy than Abramovich.

How can these people be happy to have their backsides kicked by weaker compatriots?

We are apparently the third most valuable club in the world.

We are the only club to have had in excess of £60 million coming in over the close season.

We all know what positions need strengthening. We have the money to do it.

We tried waiting for success. We trusted in Wenger. It nearly worked.

Nearly, but we never quite got there.

Now we have the weakest squad we have had for 25 years.

In the late 90s and early 00s we were up there paying the bast wages to the best players. We put a hold on that because of the new ground.

But that has to change now.

For those who don't remember the 70s, we built a squad strong enough to win the FA cup and then go on to challenge for the division one title, and also be succesful in Europe.

But we refused to break our wage structure.

After losing Chippy Brady and Frank Stapleton in 1980 and 1981 respectively we didn't get round to challenge for the title for another 8 years.

We can't allow this squad to collapse like that one did.

Wenger is a victim of his own success which has turned some Arsenal fans into brats demanding more and more success. In history it is quite normal for big clubs to go decades without a trophy yet we slaughter Wenger for not winning one in 6 years? City themselves have won 1 FA cup in 30 odd years and could argue that they wouldnt have had that if it wasnt for the huge injection of cash in recent years.

We are still competing you said it yourself. Last year we came close to winning the PL but faltered towards the end. If we are still having this conversation after another 6 trophy-less seasons then maybe. Wenger deserves a lot more respect and George Graham summed it yesterday when he said that if Wenger left Arsenal all the wealthy clubs in Europe would fight to have him.

Be careful what you wish for.
 
Just for flip sake don't buy Chelsea rejects benayoun and Alex. If they are not good enough at this level, they should be left well alone. And not another sylvester either.

So if someone offered you a 300% pay-rise and a realistic chance of winning some silverware you'd think twice...?
Do you think money really matters to these guys? They're on more each week than I'm going to see in years of work - you can't spend that amount of money. Having said that, if you get offered a whole lot more for doing the same job you're not going to turn it down.
Nasri and Fabregas have looked at the squad Arsenal have and decided that they have a better chance of winning things by leaving.
The players Wenger's looking at - according to SSNews - woudn't fill me with enthusiasm if I were a Gooner.

Totally agree,if another employer offers anyone double or even treble wages to do the job your doing now,you would be mad to turn it down.
Whilst there are clubs willing to spend stupid money,and make players multi millionaires,greed will always prevail.
Loyalty to clubs is scarce,it seems the foreigners have come just for the money.

Ljungberg, Viera, Van Persie, etc cost far less and they didnt turn out too bad did they?

Ironically, some of Wengers most disappointing signings has come when he has attempted to spend "big".

Disagree. You can't tar everybody with the same brush but I dont necessarily blame the players I think agents are the scourge of our game. Also you can't make comparisons with these guys and us, If I was already earning more money than I knew what to do with yes I probably would stay where I was.

Besides, Nasri was offered an improved contract believed to be around 100K but he still turned it down because he could get 70K or so more at City. Its not like we treated him like a pauper. Sorry thats pure greed. Fabregas in contrast gave £5M away just to help the move because his move was not motivated by money, he would have played for less money to play for the club where he grew up.

Over the years, Henry, Viera, Bergkamp, Pires, Fabregas, and more could have left for more money but they chose to stay at Arsenal for years. There are plenty of other examples at other clubs as well - Giggs, Scholes, Cantona, Beckham, Di Canio,
 
After the early showings, it seems Nasri may have made the right decision. Citeh looked world beating against Spurs on Sunday. I think they may have a legit shot at it this year.

If I was offered a move to double my salary or even increase it by 50% and I accepted the move then came on here to inform the forum of my good fortune would the forum say I was being greedy??

I hear what you are saying Dodger but its a little bit different when the player is already earning £5M a year, does he really need £8M?

Yes if you are earning say £50K a year and someone offers you £100K of course you should take it, we cant really compare their lives with ours.
