Is it a Load of Balls?

Hi,

New to golf and new to the forum.

Have played about ten rounds of golf now and I have had a few debates with friends about golf balls. I have been playing with some cheap balls (handy when losing loads) but have just broke 100 (93) twice on the trot now including a back 9 of 42 today , so now I am trying Srixon ad333 and Wilson staff dx2 I think the Srixon are better for my long game, the wilson is better for my short game but overall the ad333 appears the better al rounder. Anyone recomend any other balls to try which would suit a new golfer for game improvement?

The simple answer is whatever suits you and your budget. If you are losing a few each round, there is no point forking out on the top end and equally some of the bargain basement rocks are a false economy. The AD333 is a pretty good all round balll and I'd suggest sticking with one brand rather than chopping and changing so you get use to the feel especially around the green and putting.

you don't want to break the bank when your scoring 100's so your on the right track,Srixon soft feel are good,Bridgestone E6 or RX330 (Bit more expensive) are great,Taylormade burner are ok.I like the Wilson DX3 but not sure if they are still around

I'd recommend the AD333. Its a great all rounder and you can get them pretty cheap at the moment. Ive used them all winter and have yet to have one cut or chip.

Have to admit am finding the ad333 quite good, was trying the dx2 today but my long game was awful so switched to the 333 which felt much better, well thats today

The ad333 is an great ball for this time of year and is my personal choice for a winter ball as it seems a touch longer off the tee compared with the dx3 I use in them summer. If you have ink just started I'd personally stick with the 333

another one to try is the Nike PD Soft, can be had for 9.99 a dozen aswell

I've been wondering about this, I'm not even close to breaking 100 and lose balls for fun so I've been using the absolute cheapest balls going, dunlop £4 a dozen from sport direct. Would this affect my game at my level?

My attitude so far has been not to spend much on balls til I'm losing less balls per round but may have to rethink if a better ball would help my game!

It's funny isn't it as I found the dx2 helped my long game!! But agree do feel better around the green.

Same here I quite like the dx2, a decent ball for the price and they go a fair distance too

I tried the Dunlop ones from SD think i got them for £6 for 24, were an ok ball but I spoke to a friend who told me to try a slightly softer ball as it felt better when hit, so i went to the 333, a friend useds dx2 so we swapped a few they are ok but seem very soft i'm sure i dont hit them as well in the long game but as i say the short game is much better with dx2, the 333 does seem a good compromise, what about nike vapor speed was looking at some of those.

I also find the srixon distance a good ball at great price can pick up 2 dozen for £15 at SD etc don't mind losing a few then!! Great for this time of year too!

I tend to use whatever I find whilst looking for mine!
Ball of choice would probably be Srixon Z Star though, but I don't find many of those.
I tend to find either Pro V1's or Nike's.

I've got a grandad who is like a golf ball sniffer dog so picks me up all kinds from around fleetwood golf course when he's walking his dogs.

Tend to find plenty of pro v1's which is strange as these are meant to be the best balls for the best golfers...but get lost frequently

Me too - I keep them in a bag in the garage ready for when I can hit the ball with the woods and long irons without putting so much side spin on the ball. Until that happens it's Srixon Soft-Feel, AD333s and Wilson DX2s - all good balls for distance while having good feel around the greens.

Got told by a friend he wont hit picked up balls as you dont know how long they have been there, since then I dont use picked up balls other than practice
