Inactive handicaps - how strict are your club?

The inactive HC was changed two years ago

There is no such thing as inactive now it's called competitive

Even if you lose your competive HC status your HC is still a valid HC - it just means you haven't played 3 Qualifying comps or supplementary cards in the previous 12 months.

The 'C' denotes a Competition handicap, not competitive. So if you don't have a 'C' you shouldn't be playing in qualifiers.

Back to the OP, if they don't have a competition handicap, how have your club let them enter?

I suspect they may have held competition handicaps when the rounds started in November, and they have since become inactive. I've had a look at the Club Rules and they don't cater for this particular issue.

But the whole matter just gets messier by the day. I now understand one of the "offending" pair is a serving committee member.

What a right Royal balls up.

Our winter League rules state (its 4BBB groups of 6 Round robin then knockout)

HANDICAPS – handicap limit 23. Players with higher handicaps may enter but must play off 23.
All entrants must have a Competition Handicap AND have played 3 qualifying rounds in the preceding 12 months to be eligible for entry.

The absolute opposite. If you don't have a "C", you should be playing in qualifiers to re-instate your competition status.

What happens if a player's handicap becomes inactive after the round robin starts? That appears to be our problem.

That will depend on each clubs entry policy for qualifiers. If someone can't play in qualifiers how will they get their C status back ? Especially if at a course that plays qualifiers every weekend .

That's why most clubs allow them to enter but not win so that their card goes towards their HC

My club will allow 2 supplimentary and 1 comp card to make a HC competitive.

Yep that's a very common approach - at the moment we don't have restrictions so they can play three comps to get it back or three supplementary cards

I'm pretty certain the club does not have the authority to specify what kind of cards have to be submitted to regain "C" status. It can be any 3 from 18-hole Qs, 9-hole Qs or Supplementaries.

Thanks for that, my (incorrect) assumption was 1 had to be competitive play hence a comp.
