Nope
No interest
Play when ready
Shortest hitter go off 1st
Anybody laying up, go off 1st
Keep play moving.......

What difference does that make out of interest? You still all have to walk up past their ball to get to yours so what does it matter that they just hit and then have to go again, or they went first?

so its your honour, but you need a pee! so do you make your two playing partners watch you taking one or let them tee off while you have one?

No problem with playing out of turn when it's sensible and common sense to do so...... "I'll just play mine and come and help you look" etc. but descending into a free for all is not really going to help anything. Bottom line is that the order of play (furthest away rather than on the tee) is like it is for the simple reason that it's the logical order to play, causes little confusion and if everyone is ready when they should be causes no issues.

Well as a for instance . i can on occasion drive our 2nd and 12th the 2 guys with me cannot , if the group ahead are on or near the green i will let the guys play first no matter what the honour should be , so when the green is clear we only have one to play not 3 so we are gone from the group behind...

If i out drive them on a hole . they are on the fairway waiting for the green, im behind a tree or buried in the rough with no chance of getting there , even tho im 40 yards ahead il chip out or lay up , when the green clear they play and we are on the move , out of range of the next group .. makes sense , doesnt ?

A couple more good sensible reasons. What isn't good though is when there is no good reason. Example.....walk up to your ball, playing partner on other side of fairway nearer hole. You size up the shot, step up to the ball only to see he is on his practice swing and playing his shot first. You have to stop and wait when it's your turn. Now that would annoy me and get in my head a bit in a comp. Fine if just a knock about or if agreement to play ready golf has been made (eg a hole behind and trying to catch up) but normally unnecessary and potentially off-putting in competition play.

I agree with what Bladeplayer used as an example, along with Fyldewhite's proviso's.

Yep ! good point , that done once could be seen as an accident, done more than once very annoying .

Back to what we were saying earlier , common sense approach ..

Sure, I can see the merit if there is a chance the longest hitter is likely to reach the group in front, where as the short hitter / laying up approach is not going to. That is sensible and yeah no point in "playing the honour" in that situation.

To be fair, virtually every thread on here, particularly those that lead to childish disagreements between a couple of vociferous types, could be answered with the term "just let common sense prevail, and all will be well".

Can be fair frustrating when you know as the biggest hitter in the group you havent a hope of getting on a par 5 in 2 , but the guy 30 yards behind is standing there waiting ha , in a knock around id say hit the flipping ball , in a comp it wouldnt be fair to "rush" a fellow competitor ..

Some can get sensitive re been offered the honour tho , i said to a relation of HiD one day one the 1st ..
"im waitint til they (group ahead) move on a bit , bang away if you want" .. the reply was "sure i can hit the ball as far as you "

fair enough , i didnt ask that , but what the heck ..

he waited and didnt by the way :D

If the group in front was reachable.......and the short hitter or lay up guy won't reach them....

Don't get me wrong
I'm NOT saying we don't "honour" the honour on the tee
Just not always, and to say I don't really care, it's just a game
We do like to let the player that's just had a birdie off 1st though, feel something's been achieved by them
