Didnt want to hijack the other thread , just curious on this ..

Is playing by honour important to you ?

and

Do you think the importance depends on handicap or ability , ie if you have the ability to "win" the honour quiet often does it become less important to you ?

Honour does not matter diddly squat to me. You've played with me Bill, when it comes to golf, I'm a relaxed sort

Zero importance to me but can be used for a bit of ribbing with FC

does not make much difference to me tbh, as long as im not waiting around for 10 mins on the tee.

Matchplay slightly more, but i try and just play my own game, most of the time.

Yea sorry Patrick Should have specified stroke play i guess . matchplay honour is a different thing for most & i can understand why

bigger deal in matchplay but not so much in a casual round. Try to recognise it whenever possible is no bad thing though, but if it helps speed up a casual round then I see no real problem.

If all players are ready to go, then why not go in order.
However, if they arnt, can't see any use in holding up play. If your ready, give it a smack

I should add that I voted 'Yes' simply because it does serve a purpose in certain matches and formats. Out of competitive play, it's also an easy way to decide who plays first and when, if there is any doubt.

the significance of honour in strokeplay is that it -

1. sets out who should be ready to play in general, and should therefore speed up play. when it fails here it should be abandoned :)
2. there can be situations when it's useful to observe a fellow competitors shot; especially how any wind may affect it, or how conditions in general are affecting a carry and whether that fairways bouncing etc etc - but these are the exceptions rather than critical every tee shot.

In stroke it doesnt bother me though as Duncan mentioned, it does give some sort of structure to how the next hole should get organised instead of all chatting or waiting for the guinea pig to go first to show wind direction etc.

If im playing with people who like to keep the round flowing then I don't mind. If im playing with anybody slow I like to keep the honour so I don't have to wait for them to do their 4.5 million checkpoint pre shot routine :D

only important in strokeplay as a matter of etiquette for me.

if you score worse i'm happy to let you tee off first, as long as you ask first...

why wouldnt you play in order? It doesnt slow the game down.

Granted, there are numerous examples where it's not always practicable for the player "away" to play first to speed up play. These can be, but not limited to:
be in the process of searching for a ball
be in the process of taking relief
Ahem - walking back to the tee (naughty boy)
waiting for their line of sight to clear
waiting for geenkeeping staff
waiting for a ruling
waiting for an alibi (thin lizzy fans only)
the good old call of nature.
Under these circumstances, it's usually OK (if everyone is in agreement) for the next available player ready to go first.

Does everyone play lowest score to highest on the tee . Some still play the old way, where a player scoring say a 7 will keep the honour if the other 2 players have maybe 4s. Is this playing out of turn and technically against the rules ???

Honour in life and the way I carry myself matter most of all to me,who goes 1st of a tee means nothing much to me, if your ready crack on!

I voted no. however i was getting royally beaten last week, and bullied my way to the tee box first on about the 14th hole just to get a taste of teeing off first!!
