I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

I had the worst round this year yesterday. Just lost any ability to swing - from the tee, chipping, putting - it was embarrassing and awful.

Round 2 tomorrow, so not sure whether I am dreading it, or can play well and mark yesterday as just one of those days...

First medal of the year yesterday off the back tees. After my recent good form I was looking forward to it. Started birdie, par into a strong wind and then the wheels came off. Just managed to save face on the last by getting up and down from a green side bunker to break 80 by one shot. At least it wasn’t a counting score dropping off so no damage done to the handicap.

Roll up Stableford this morning, unlucky for some 13 of us turned up this morning to brave those winds.

I’ve accidentally found the ideal way to play our short par 4, 1st hole. Technically it’s drivable in length but the high trees can’t be carried and the dog leg needs a good accurate power fade to hit the front edge. So cleverly it forces a lay up down the left half of the fairway and short iron in. I didn’t do any of that, I hit such a bad 4iron so far out of the toe with a cross wind I pushed it down our 2nd fairway about 50yards wide of the 1st 😂. Due to shape of the hole I only had a 60yards to the flag straight into the wind, knocked it to 8ft and and just missed the putt for an opening birdie as it lipped out, but by semi shanking one I’ve now got my ideal way to play the hole every time!

Was definitely tough out there, every shot was fought for but I enjoy that kind of golf and hit the ball well and the only missed fairway was the 1st hole so drove it well, and lots of punch shots. Walked off with 37pts, the winning score was 38pts. But good fun, good company and really enjoyed the golf I played . Now off home to be told what jobs I was meant to do 😂

Me to but I actually played ok but my score doesn’t suggest I did.

Anyone who played in the afternoon it was a nightmare in the wind.
Felt like 8000 yds .
Missed a 12” put just shot left off the putter.😳 some greens still very soft!

Made worse by a pp not turning up that put us in a 2 ball 4.20 hrs in a 2 ball is not good I was freezing.

Out of 161 players 31 nrs. Tough day.

Back out today. Windy but on the right side of playable, just. We got soaked after 4 holes but thankfully that only lasted 1 very intense hole. Oddly enough, we had hailstones as we were packing our gear away at the end.

Much better play today. I got my timing right more often, made a huge difference. The key is to swing slower, not let my arms get ahead of everything. Do that, much more control and better ball striking.

Putting wasn't great but I'm not worried about that. The weather wasn't really conducive to taking your time over a putt, thinking too much.
