I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

I had the worst round this year yesterday. Just lost any ability to swing - from the tee, chipping, putting - it was embarrassing and awful.

Round 2 tomorrow, so not sure whether I am dreading it, or can play well and mark yesterday as just one of those days...

First medal of the year yesterday off the back tees. After my recent good form I was looking forward to it. Started birdie, par into a strong wind and then the wheels came off. Just managed to save face on the last by getting up and down from a green side bunker to break 80 by one shot. At least it wasn’t a counting score dropping off so no damage done to the handicap.

Roll up Stableford this morning, unlucky for some 13 of us turned up this morning to brave those winds.

I’ve accidentally found the ideal way to play our short par 4, 1st hole. Technically it’s drivable in length but the high trees can’t be carried and the dog leg needs a good accurate power fade to hit the front edge. So cleverly it forces a lay up down the left half of the fairway and short iron in. I didn’t do any of that, I hit such a bad 4iron so far out of the toe with a cross wind I pushed it down our 2nd fairway about 50yards wide of the 1st 😂. Due to shape of the hole I only had a 60yards to the flag straight into the wind, knocked it to 8ft and and just missed the putt for an opening birdie as it lipped out, but by semi shanking one I’ve now got my ideal way to play the hole every time!

Was definitely tough out there, every shot was fought for but I enjoy that kind of golf and hit the ball well and the only missed fairway was the 1st hole so drove it well, and lots of punch shots. Walked off with 37pts, the winning score was 38pts. But good fun, good company and really enjoyed the golf I played . Now off home to be told what jobs I was meant to do 😂

50 years is a very long way. ;)

Me to but I actually played ok but my score doesn’t suggest I did.

Anyone who played in the afternoon it was a nightmare in the wind.
Felt like 8000 yds .
Missed a 12” put just shot left off the putter.😳 some greens still very soft!

Made worse by a pp not turning up that put us in a 2 ball 4.20 hrs in a 2 ball is not good I was freezing.

Out of 161 players 31 nrs. Tough day.

Back out today. Windy but on the right side of playable, just. We got soaked after 4 holes but thankfully that only lasted 1 very intense hole. Oddly enough, we had hailstones as we were packing our gear away at the end.

Much better play today. I got my timing right more often, made a huge difference. The key is to swing slower, not let my arms get ahead of everything. Do that, much more control and better ball striking.

Putting wasn't great but I'm not worried about that. The weather wasn't really conducive to taking your time over a putt, thinking too much.

decided to have a late afternoon round, as looking at the booking page, the course didn't seem too busy, so I took the chance.

My last round was hideous, so hopefully today will right some wrongs.

3 and 5 wood off the tee was working fine (78% FIR); short game was working fine; started to tee up my irons on par 3s to good results; hit 50% par 3 greens, so that's something positive going forward.
I am still very, very poor with my irons. I can hit 3 or 4 100% perfect, effortless long and high shots with my irons, but the rest of the time, slices and fat shots. i think i am thinking too much about all the mechanics, ball position, grip, swing, in to out.. ect; i think when I relax, I hit the decent shots. idk.
Putting was also going great today, too, 15 on the front, no 3 putts, 19 on the back, got a bit tired and stopped trying to read the greens.

All in all, quite enjoyable, the course was in good condition, decent sunny weather with a cool breeze. which sounds lovely compared to what alot of you guys went through over the weekend ;)

Why would you?
It sounds more like a punishment than a pleasure.

It was actually enjoyable. Wind, sun, rain and hail - we had it all.

Hit the ball Ok, didn't lose a ball until the 14th when I just didn't get enough of a nine iron into the wind to the island green - but my short game was absolutely horrific.
Managed to accrue 16 points by the time my p.p walked in after the 13th - which saw me finish dead last in the comp.

Chilly start but warmed into a perfect Spring morning..
Got a bit grumpy on our 1st (10th)..found a greenside bunker, played a decent shot out that just caught the slope and finished 20 feet further away than it looked like it was going to, left the putt about 18 inches left..
The next putt started on line and was bang on for pace...until, 3 inches from the hole, it just turned sharp right.
This wasn't a break on the putt, it hit something and went...could see a blemish or old pitch mark, nothing that would make, effectively, a 3 inch puttmiss the hole by 3 inches....
I looked at CVG, he looked at me...and we both burst out laughing...hey ho....
Solid 34 points after that with a nice birdie on our 10th (1st)
And I hate to say it but...some of the fairways are getting a bit fiery....we may be in need of a drop of rain....

Texas scramble today - 15 under gross to give us 17 under net

Currently sitting last 😂

Handicap allowances mean that I contribute 0 to the team HC and nearly half the allowance is from me 😂

Multiple teams with 10 shots or more in the comp

First comp back at my club and I hit it well off the tee but my wedges, short game and putting were minging. Got on the bogey train early and never got off, really annoying to take 3 to get down from 3 yards off the green multiple holes in a row.

Scored terribly but weirdly wasn’t that bothered as I felt I actually hit it well and my short game will come back in time once I get used to the greens and the softer lies again.

Today we had an interclub mixed knockout match at Saddleworth, the captains got together and worked all the handicaps out and gave us our cards, it was Foursomes and we were giving 3 shots. 2 of the 3 were given in the first 6 holes, we lost both.
As we were wating for the men to drive off on the next hole, I asked the girl in the other team what her handicap was, 7.6 she replied, oh, said I, it shows, what is your partners? 7 point something she replied.
Well my partner is also 7.something but I am 14.2 so why are we giving you shots?
To cut a long story short, our captain had used the handicaps of another pair when working our handicaps out, so instead of giving 3 shot, we should have been getting 4.
Under the rules the results of the holes already played had to stand, so we just got 2 of the shots we should have got.

The result of our match, we lost on the 19th, although the team won so fortunately no damage done.

That’s poor that though, shouldn’t be getting that wrong.
At least you won the event.

Just been down to pick up Jamie and his mate from the Junior Open at Hollinwell. Neither played great but the course and experience was fantastic, and the weather delivered as well. Another top course ticked off for him.

Got out for 9 holes with my mate in gorgeous 20° sunshine.

First hole, picked straight up where I left off and three-putted for a double bogey.

Second hole, perfect tee shot just a fraction short on my approach and found the bunker. From here I proceeded to take six attempts at getting out before eventually smashing it into the bunker on the other side of the green. Just could not figure out what I was doing wrong. There was very little sand in there in fairness, but no matter what I did the club was just bouncing off it and knifing the ball into the lip. It's a 60° with only 9° of bounce I think so I've no idea why that happens to me time and time again. I've watched all the bunker videos, I know what you're supposed to do, and it quite simply does not work for me. Tried opening the face, not opening the face, blast it, splash it, it makes no difference, none of them work.

Rest of it was fine. Hit some cracking long drives of 270 and 260, when it's not even summer yet it's just dry, so that was encouraging.
