I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Went out early and managed to miss the rain
Only played 9 as I had to pick up the Boss at 9 and only carried half a set.
P.ayed OK, shot 2 over although I did mix between the yellows and the reds..reds into the surprisingly strong wind.
Cruddy weather tomorrow, may get out Thursday but Friday is a Society day at Burnham Beeches which may well be under water when we arrive...
Looking forward to a swim..

Driving the ball like a man possessed at the moment. It kinda feels like when I was playing off 15. The surprising thing is that some of the lads in our fuddle have never seen me hit a straight drive before.
Front nine 17 with a blob and a couple of slack homes. Back nine, 21 points with another blob. Which got a three way share of the back nine. Another dropped shot in the fuddle and £6 better off. Well actually £1 coz it coz £5 in the fuddle.
A dropped shot for a quid 😳

Our swindle went out yesterday as 3 x 3 balls and one 4 which I was in, by the time we got to 10 we were 2 holes behind.
Strong winds had meant leaves everywhere and we had a search on nearly every hole, Everyone lost at least one ball.
I lost mine in the middle of the 11th fairway. The greenkeeper was out on the 11th with the leave collector when we were going down the 5th, by the time we got to 11 it was covered with leaves again.

By the time the we were playing the 11th the rain had come in as well - not pleasant so we walked in. The only group to complete all 18 were the first group out who apparently missed all the rain, something which often happens due to the surrounding hills and where the wind blows.

Played Wexham Park yesterday with my wife, dad and uncle. The course has been redesigned with several new holes built and only reopened earlier this year, so we went back for old time's sake since I used to play there occasionally with my dad and uncle 20+ years ago.

The front nine was a complete disaster. The 1st was pretty straightforward so I parred it, but on the 2nd (a par 3) my ball plugged, so I placed it as it was on a slight hill - as I swung to chip it, the ball started rolling so I just barely caught it on the toe and basically toe-shanked it into a bunker! Took two to get out so that was a blob. The 4th is another par 3 and I got the worst plugged lie in a bunker I've ever seen, so another two to get out and another blob (double bogey).

5th & 6th are back-to-back par 5s now. One thing that became apparent to me, was that I'm so reliant on Hole19 for yardage and hole layout, that when I don't have that (because they haven't updated for the new course yet), I absolute fell to pieces. Like I literally felt anxious on the tee and couldn't swing properly because I couldn't commit to a shot. So on the 5th I carved my drive right into the trees and never found it - another blob. And on the 6th I topped my drive into a ditch! I rarely ever do that, like we're talking once or twice a year. After the drop my next shot went behind a tree so I had to chip out - finally I hit a beautiful pitch to the green that sailed 10 yards over the back because I was guessing the yardage. Ended up carding a 9 because I just wanted to finish a hole! Completed the front nine misery by duffing two chips on the 9th resulting in a triple bogey. Front nine score of... drum roll.... 7 points. I'm pretty confident in saying that's the worst front nine score I've EVER had.

The back nine was a completely different animal though. As it turns out most of the back nine holes are the old holes that they had on the course before, so I was able to get a GPS app up for these, and suddenly my head was alright again. Managed three pars and only one double for 16 points on the back. We were also doing a match of me and the wife (43 shots) vs Dad (37) and uncle (17) - despite being 2 down at half-way with my wife just about keeping us in it, we turned it around on the back nine when I actually started playing golf again, and ended up winning 3 & 2. Nobody uprooted trees in the Stableford, with my uncle getting 24, wife managed 20 and Dad 19.

Overall I wouldn't say I loved the new layout. The front nine, which had most of the new holes, felt very long. It's 300 yards longer than the back nine, as it has three par 5s and two pretty long par 4s on the 8th and 9th. It's not a good winter course either, it was extremely muddy which didn't help our scores. Also the brand new greens were much faster than the old pre-existing greens, so you had to take a moment to think about that before you putted each time - I did manage to avoid making any three-putts though. I don't think we'll be rushing back.

Spent the morning on the beach.....well, 9 of them to be precise..
And not 1 ball went straight in - they either rolled back in or kicked in sideways.....
Got a bit wearisome after 4 or 5, bloody irritating after 8 and as for the 9th........
Limped to 29 points but a nice morning ..
That's me until Monday I think...the world is going to drown tomorrow and the weekend doesn't look much better and may well be carry only...

Thursdays midweek stableford results have just been published.

For the first time ever, in 25 years at the club, I came stone dead LAST!!

The round was not pretty at all....opened up with 2 blobs, stuck a ball in the water at the 4th. Got my first gross par of the round on the 12th, got another on 14 and lordy lordy managed a birdie for 4 points on 17....other than that...you could have guessed I had only just taken up the game.

We go again tomorrow for some skins action and then another qualifier on Wednesday.

Played in the last society event for the year at Littlestone; a charity fundraiser with guests invited, singles Stableford format + a fourball team game of 2 best scores from the 4. For the team part we were given a yellow ball which counted as double points for the person playing with, plus we bought a second yellow.

Had a good round personally, coming in with 40 points - helped by an eagle on the fifth (using yellow ball, tee shot went right into the rough and we were wondering if it would be found. Only for it to be sitting nicely on some flattish long grass, whereupon a wedge sunk it from 105yds for 5 points (10 for the team).

One of my playing partners returned 42 points but lost out on count back.

As a team we won with 160 points. Not losing either of our two yellow balls and wisely using of them on holes with players who were getting shots paid off.

A great day out, with an excellent turnout, raising over £1500 for charity.

Very enjoyable round this morning. Course has been closed for two days due to rain, it was declared open first thing. I'm driving up, seeing puddles everywhere, expectations were low.

1st tee, hit it up the middle, walk up the fairway, it's firm 😍. We have 2-3 problem holes, they were soggy, the rest were fine. It was cold, easterly wind but not too strong @Springveldt may have a different experience playing on the coast today 😄. I layered up, I was nicely protected.

I haven't played for 3 weeks so wasn't expecting too much. I was pleasantly surprised. Solid off the tee, nice and straight. Irons were decent chipping around the greens was good. I went for a lower lofted club and was more aggressive. It worked. My pp stayed lofted and hoped for roll. It didn't work 😂.

Best of all, my fairway wood and hybrid, which had deserted me recently, came back to life 😍. I decided to try hitting down with them, rather than sweeping, and the results were instant. They might not go miles but they went straight and with a nice trajectory. Very happy.

38 points, I didn't have to buy the coffee 😊. Very good winter golf.

Everything flooded around here. Maybe by Monday the course might be open......I wouldn't bet on it.

My course was closed today, so we hastily had a check around for somewhere we could get a tee time - ended up back at Stockley Park for an 8:45 tee.

Started off pretty steady, but blobbed the third hole with a topped tee shot and then taking two to get out of a cement-like bunker. After that though things got interesting. A few pars and a birdie on the 8th saw me only four over par by half-way for 19 points. Then went on a nice run of 5 pars in a row (so 8 consecutive holes without a bogey). Ultimately I birdied the 18th, which gave me a one over back nine for 41 points in total - a 5 over par 77. Five over with a triple on the third! 🤣

My wedge approaches were unbelievably good. I had several shots from 80-100 yards and almost every time I stuck it to 10 feet or closer. I hit 12 greens in regulation which has to be a record for me. In fairness they have the yellow tees playing extremely short for winter, but you can only play what's in front of you. 😅 My chipping was still pants - in fact I even developed a bit of a yip on two of them which was alarming, but I got away with both, plus didn't have too many more chips given the number of greens I managed to hit. Driving was superb as well.

We had a two v two betterball going as well, which was a superb match since all four of us played very well. My partner was off 14 PH and managed 35 points, and we won the match 2 up in the end against a 10 PH who got 37 and a 18 PH who got 34, so they managed to take us down the last even with me playing as well as I did (10 PH for me as well).

Fantastic day, great weather too (another shirt sleeves day) and I think relative to par, five over is the best round I've ever had. 👍🏻

Never had a hole-in-one…still haven’t - i console myself with a tidy gross 4 over. I reflect that i left a few out there - but you don’t hole em all and I’ll take the 38pts and the £1 that that won me in the roll up 🤣 And I played our four par threes in aggregate one under gross - now that in itself is worthy of a little celebration.

Didn't play yesterday - course was closed but we had something else in the diary anyway. Little trip over to Myerscough for an open morning - Jamie has for some time been thinking about attending when he finishes his GCSE's next June - although he has been wavering a little recently and contemplating an apprenticeship in a trade. With that in mind we went over thinking it might be a wasted journey, but have to say, the guys there sold the courses very well. The one running the degree level courses took most of the presentation and talked us through what the course will look like, trips they go on etc.
I won't go into too much detail but what an opportunity they give the students who sign up.
The lad came down stairs last night and said he wanted to give it a go - which was what I wanted to hear.
It'll cost us a few quid but he's gonna have an absolute blast and learn a LOT about the golf industry.

Unlucky but did you make the putt 😂

Played yesterday, probably the last qualifier of the year. Had a low one drop off so went up 0.1 to end the year on 2.6.

What could have been. 1 under after 5 holes with one birdie. Then lost the plot in the middle of the round to drop 9 shots between holes 6 and 12 which included a birdie on 11. Then played the last 6 holes in 1 under. 🤷‍♂️ Golf is stupid.

Nothing too bad at Newbiggin, just a brisk 40mph wind coming in off the sea. At least you couldn’t send it right OB on the first 3.

I was awful, might have been my worst round of the year. Ball striking was garbage as was my putting, can’t even blame the wind unless it was making me hang back on everything and chunk it.

No excuses either as my mate shot -1 and his brother who has now joined shot -2 while I chopped it round in +14. 😂
