I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Another expensive round this morning as I was on the losing side and had to buy the pints. Didn’t play great, lots of chunks and ended up shooting +6 for 31 points while playing partners shot -2 and -1 for 34 points each.

Played quite well today in a team game.
We won’t trouble the winners spots.
but to be honest it should have been closed.
It’s so wet it’s silly.

But the loss of revenue in the bar keeps it open no matter what on Saturday.

Last game of the year today. 18 holes with Mrs M, I played average struggled with the 4 & 5 irons no reason whatsoever just couldn’t get the low point right with them. Drove it relatively well but short irons and short game were decent and knocked it round in +3 which might get me a small cut to finish the year off a 2 HI.

BUT! I am so proud of Mrs M, she’s just getting better and more importantly having so much fun playing. She’s been working hard when we go to the range. Her driving today was lovely , she was getting it out there around 180 but so very straight. Her chipping is really coming on, still the odd wonky one and putting which she has struggled with is starting to come together. Nothing more than a double bogey on her card today and just missed out on 4 par chances. Shot her lowest ever round in only her 4th official scoring round of 91.

I’ve had a really good morning watching her smile at her good shots and asking “did you see that”. That’s what it’s all about 🥰

Mate's birthday, so we all headed to Toot Hill for our last 'major' of the year.

My front nine was near-flawless. Five pars & four bogeys for 19 points at half-way. That gave me a 4 point lead over my nearest competitor, so all I had to do from here was not bottle it. Well, about that...

I actually got another nice par on the 10th, but then it started raining. I put my umbrella up, changed from my Wintersof gloves to the Raingrip one, and promptly hit my first sliced drive of the day. Ended up scraping a double bogey. Then the 12th, the island green par 3. I struck my PW great, apart from closing the face and hooking it 20 yards left into the drink. Kept chugging away, until the next stupid mistake which was on the 17th, another short par 3 - hit the green nicely but managed to three-whack from about 12 feet. Then on the last I pull my wedge approach left of the green and through the metal fence so it's out of bounds. Scraped a double there which brought me to 32 points total (85 gross).

Luckily, the chap who had been second at half-way had an equally poor back nine and finished 3rd in the end, so I held onto my victory by the skin of my teeth - 2nd place was the birthday boy who had come from 5 behind after nine to finish only 2 behind after 18.

I think that means out of five 'majors' this year, I won three, and shared another one, so a pretty good year all in all. 😁

And a word on Toot Hill - the fairways were absolutely superb, best I've seen for this time of year, immaculate. The greens were very good too. They only went down in my estimation when the clubhouse & restaurant were all closed after we finished and we had to go home thirsty!

Went out for the first time in 16 months, was a bit cautious of hooking my drives into the motorway, so played pretty conservatively - swing is randomly better than before, my irons game was spot on (bought different clubs than I had last year, went from TM-770 to Ping i500), shortgame was mega rusty and driver was working well most of the, i am still building my bag so only had a driver 6i-pw and a 56 wedge. Scored 100, which is pretty much bang average, so haven't lost any golf mechanics over the period I didn't play. The only thing which is a mega concern atm is my fitness, I felt absolutely smashed after 4 holes, and have no idea how I finished 18, but onwards we go.

Well done - what made you give it up for that long? (If it's not too personal.)

Weather looked decent (not raining and a bit of sunlight at least) so I nipped out on my lunch break for a bit of speed golf - managed seven holes in 46 minutes. Played flipping great as well considering that pace and zero warm-up. Played 10th to 16th and went bogey, par, par (hit the flag from 95 yards for a tap-in par save), bogey, par, bogey, birdie to finish - 6 iron onto the green and a seven foot putt. So two over par and 16 points.

Carried the bag with three clubs removed to lighten the load a bit (7, 9 and AW). Will probably continue with that set-up now through the winter. Tees had gone onto mats for most of the holes I played, so it played a little bit shorter - only 10 or 15 yards in most cases though.

Day off work today so joined the fossils for their Thursday swindle.
36 points for joint second. No prize for that but I did pocket a fiver for nearest the pin.
After a miserable summer I'm suddenly breaking 90 regularly again.

Nice, friendly bit of stableford 4bbb today...
Me and ,y partner rinsed the opposition by 7 points...did help that I shot a 76 gross (+5)
Short game was on fire today....Just as well coz it was chuffin' freezing!

Our weekly mid week game and playing off a 3 handicap, I was 4 over par after 6 holes, turned 4 over and then played the back nine 1 over for 77 gross.

Birdied index 2, did this last Saturday where I hit a 7 iron, today it was a 5 wood which I nearly holed. :)

No golf for the next 2 weeks so I took the chance to tee off as a single at 6.30 this morning before I fly, was already 26 degrees going up to 30 when i finished 2 hrs later but gentle breeze helped
Got enough pars but one of those days where you only hit a few duff shots... but they each cost you 2-3 shots on the score instead of 1, a scrappy 30pts

I am still struggling to get going in a round (the body will not put up with practice as well as playing).
I came close to first round in months without a NR on a hole but just 31 points due to a poor opening 6 holes.

I think I just had golf burnout in the last months of last year I was forcing myself to go out then just going through the motions.
At the time, my old job was super toxic, so I couldn't really relax playing golf, as I always had it on my mind. So I sold everything and got a new job, and was just busy working, and going from a quite on feet active job to an office job, I really needed the exercise, so I decided to go back to golf, starting from fresh. So, at the moment I'm having fun humbly trying to piece my bag together, looking to get a full bag ready for spring

We had our 11 hole winter competition today, on full greens, in stead of the temps we have bee non recently due to frozen ground. I was pleased to score 24 points and mostly played well. Interestingly the girl I was playing with scored 27 points, she played very well but the big different between us was she took 18 putts to my 23!

I'm just fed up of giving my 3 quid skins money away on a Friday.

Its like I've never played the game before. Can barely get the ball in the air with anything from 5 wood down to 6 iron. Driving magnificent, bunker play pretty good (lord knows i had enough practice!), putting was good....but yeah...faced with a shot from 145 to 175yards...watch out worms!!!

Will be back out there on Sunday to give another 3 quid away.

So last week when I didn’t play, one of the lads who has a fuddle handicap of 16 and club Hcap of 12 got 47 points in the fuddle playing off winter green tees. Oh he got some stick. However this week another guy who gets 21 in the fuddle, also shot 47 points.
Some good s ores coming in at the moment. Now a couple of lads have had a little grumble about shooting 43/44 points and not getting a sniff. Me I am just happy to score well and see others score well.
Thursday I got 31 points, rammel 😄

Played at Hayling yesterday, first time back since H4H, hosted by Dave (ex Papas on here).

Despite fighting the hooks a bit with driver, front 9 was very good for 22 points. Back 9 not quite as good but ended up with 38 at the end which I was very happy with.

As always with Hayling, it was windy which made club selection tricky.

Course was in very good shape, especially the greens which were pretty much immaculate.

Thanks to a truly , shockingly bad "card in hand" game over the last month my index has gone from 5.1 to 6.5.......
Hopefully my ability will return from it's holiday in Ibiza so I can rectify the situation....
