I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Winter league match this morning, course surprisingly dry given the recent rain.

Partner and I played pretty steady golf for the first 9 holes, think we were both playing to handicap. However, we were 6 down. Ended up losing 6&5.

What the chuff,! a quad on par 4 6th spoils the card. Other than that it was a round to handicap today... Sometimes I just hit stoopid shots

Rain stayed away though so that was something , 28 degrees but not a lot of sun

I WAS going to play today, but the guys I play with really don't like cold weather. I'd rather not bother than to play 9 holes. All but one guy had already dropped out. I'd have probably switched to the carry bag since the club requested that.....too much faff moving everything from one bag to another. Luckily the guys at the other course I play at just carry on in the cold.....We had over 40 last week in the senior rollup, only about 30 so for signed up for this Thursday.

Rain started just as I pulled into the car park. Never let up all the way round. We walked off after 9, I was going well but the other 2 lads were struggling and the lure of a warm and dry clubhouse was too much for them.

First game yesterday with the new clubs.
Collected the driver, Ping G440 LST 10.5 stiff, from the pro-shop 10 minutes before teeing off.
The Ping i530 irons I've had at home for a week. 8 irons from 19° to 47°.
3 wood, 20° hybrid and wedges of 52° and 58° were clubs I've had for some years.

Hadn't played for 10 days and some early iffy tee-shots I'll put down to that. 3-over after 4 holes and 4-over after 18 after a birdie 4 on 17.
A good deal of that was due to 14 putts on each nine, however.
Beat the other two chaps I played with by some margin.

Really like these new clubs.
Found myself on the 15th hole, longest par-4 on the back nine, middle of fairway and the right distance for the 19° iron. Good shot to pin-high and a tap-in par followed.
One thing I'm fairly certain of when standing over the ball with this 19° iron: IT IS NOT A 4-IRON. I'm very happy with it, though.
I have several 2-irons and this compares with those more than anything else.
A 42° PW is simply confusing to me at the moment. Same loft as the i10 9-iron I've been playing with for 18 summers.
I've had to write the lofts on the backs of the irons in black marker pen. Once I become fluent in i530-thinking I will be able to dispense with this temporary aid.
But for the moment it helps with correct club selection.

Interesting ball found on the 13th hole in the rough.

Played yesterday ( just about) still fighting an injury so not good , 2 lost balls 1 due to leaves and longish grass and 1 one due hitting in to very bright sunlight, funny thing looking back from the green the guys behind were searching the same place and 2 of them lost a ball in roughly the same area.

Really slow round mainly due to a 4 ball visitor group a few holes ahead of us we had to wait on every shot from about the 6th hole onwards, guys in front of lost a ball on 14. When got to the 15 tee there were 2 groups on the tee, one of the guys in front knocked 2 balls in to the woods,. We decided to go in, the group behind us followed us and the group 2 behind them also followed us in.

Glad we did because as we got back to the clubhouse down came the rain.

How do the i530s feel? Soft? clicky ? Bit of both ? I’m tempted to try them.

Saunton East today under clear blue skies and virtually a flat calm. Course was in amazing condition. The autumn over seeding has worked superbly and the damage from the hot summer has healed.

Struggled with approach shots to start with and limped to 13 points out. A birdie at 10 helped me to 19 back and saved my blushes!

West Course tomorrow, a few showers possible, but we'll see😉

Love both courses, very happy memories of playing there on a few occasions, I used to head to France and play over the winter on weekends, Le Touquet and Hardelot both 36 hole locations, and that was back before the tunnel, a lot easier now.

Shot 3 over par today with a terrible double bogey on a par 5 (index 4) normally one of my good holes.

Boy I hate golf, but then I birdied the next (index 2) now I love golf, god help me.

Played with my 23 handicap mate today, giving him 12 shots in a friendly match.

Miserable conditions when we started so it was hard to get going really - I 1-pointed the first five holes with a bogey, two doubles then two more bogeys. Mate had started even worse though so I was already 4 up, then went 5 up with a great par on our long par 3 15th (started on back nine first). Unfortunately a double/blob on the 18th saw me finish the first nine with only 12 points, but 6 up in the match, so that was already a dead rubber really.

Playing the front nine coincided with some better weather as the rain stopped (although still very windy). As the weather improved so did my golf and I got a nice stretch of five pars in a row from the 2nd to the 6th. Then tossed that away with two more doubles - the 8th was particularly galling as I'd hit a beautiful drive riding the left to right wind that I used to be fearful of - then cocked the rest of it up. Ended on a par for 84 gross and 29 points off my new course handicap of 9. Quite happy with that given the conditions - we were treated to another downpour on the last hole annoyingly. The match had long since ended with a 7 & 6 drubbing.
