I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Played Vale of Glamorgan (National) today.

Some really good holes, but some odd routing. Was really soggy in places already, so should imagine it struggles over winter. That said, you can see it's well maintained in the season.

A mate has corporate membership, so it was a freebie, which is never bad😁 Nice food after too.

Had fun, but wouldn't want to play there every week😉

Played this afternoon on what should have been the last Wednesday game of the year (took a half day as I’ve tons of holidays left). Teed of around 15:20 and we finished in 2:25 this week. I won for the second week in a row, guess they are like buses, you wait ages for a first and the second comes straight along. Would have been a +2 74 if I popped in the gimmes.

Half term next week so I was off and it turns out that our club is hosting some county junior event on the Wednesday and there a bunch of reciprocals available. We stuck our name down for a few of them in descending order of preference and will find out tomorrow which one we got. So one final Wednesday game for the year.

First round today wrapped up in all the winter gear since February. Played okay once I’d worked out the difference between swinging dressed in shorts and tee shirt as opposed to resembling Michelin Man but, boy, do I hate the cold these days.

Not wishing my life away but roll on spring.

Was thinking the same thing looking at the forecast for this weekend with the "feels like" being -1 for our tee time on Sunday. Need to dig out the trolley mitts and the electric hand warmers tomorrow.

The first round of the winter foursomes knockout (my first ever - only been playing for just over 3 years) and it was extremely close with both teams winning and losing holes. It all changed on the 12th when my partner got a hole in one. Went onto win 4 & 3

Played Dirleton at Archerfield yesterday, the weather was, I’ll use the word “poor” as the other words are naughty.

Managed to knob it round in 84 bit left feeling like I’d just hit a 74. The wind got up on the back 9 and the rain started coming in sideways. Gripping the clubs like I was wrestling a rattlesnake.

Worst part is that horrible slimy feeling of the leather glove against the rubber when it gets soaking wet.

Heavy rain overnight, strong winds forecast today. My group decided not to play in the comp, a qualifier, and instead play our own scramble. A good decision, we had fun.

I started well, particularly with my 3 wood off the fairway. The best I've ever hit it, it was glorious.........and then suddenly the moment was gone. Couldn't get it off the deck, what happened 🤷‍♂️. A mixed bag, some good, some bad. Short game was poor, which was disappointing.

We all tailed off by the end, the wind and cold won out. Winter golf has arrived.

Played Oxford City with the Society yesterday, a tad breezy and a bit damp at the end but otherwise OK..
It's obvious how much they suffered in the Summer..large swathes of the course had little to no growth although the greens were good.
As is Society golf a lot of the time it took a week and a half to get round and my dodgy heel, which seemed to be well on the mend, didn't appreciate the stop, stand, start speed.
Played OK tee to green but struggled with the short game and putting...couldn't get a grip of the green speeds..
One green I had a 15 foot putt and knocked it 9 feet past.. but holed that to make up for it....
Limped, literally, to 25 points but I beat Fragger as his trolley packed up after a couple of holes....I hear a charging issue was the result....
The secret is to plug both ends in!!!:ROFLMAO:

Played today won’t name the course due to Golf Random irritation post Mrs M had a mixed bag struggled to start with due to what was occurring but once she settled on back 9 regained a bit of confidence and hit some good shots but her worst round score due to the early issues. But it’s her 3rd counting score so should get her a handicap around 26-30ish if my maths are right.

Despite those irritations I managed to play really well only dropped shot on front 9 was at the 2nd hole didn’t get up and down from a tight bunker. Back to back birdies to finish the front 9 then had 7 pars and a 2 bogey on the back missing at least 3 good birdie chances and bogeying the last due to missing the fairway in wrong spot. So in the end a 1 over par 72 gross.

Driver was behaving today thanks to Tiger Woods tip tee it low, address it out of the heel and hit there purposely, lost about 15 yards on average as a result but a safe low cut into pretty much every fairway was nice except the last where it didn’t cut back. Mrs M friend had a solid round and her fella a club pro at another course gave Mrs M some tips and asked if I fancy a game in a Pro-Am with him next year so even bad days can be good 😊

🤣 If I did that I'd miss every fairway 50 yards right! I address mine toe-side specifically so I don't hit it in the heel. 😁

Medal today. Started terribly on the first three holes. 3 putt bogey 5 on the 1st, bogey 5 on the 2nd due to a pulled driver off the tee, then a lost ball down the third resulted in an 8 (quadruple). I had to walk back to the tee while the group behind hit their tee shots. Annoyingly one of my playing partners didn’t help look for my ball. Then while I played my second ball as a four ball with the group behind, my two playing partners finished the third and had also played their tee shots from the 4th 🤷‍♂️. This made me rush a bit which probably didn’t help. I then proceeded to play the last 15 holes in one over par 🤬 for the best gross of the day. A difficult north westerly wind which is very rare for our course. A field of 81 and there was 20 NRs

Captains Change Over Comp. BIG turn out. 4BB Shotgun. (See Golf Randoms for first part of this)

Wound up, I smashed the ball up the third fairway. I started Par, Par, Bogie, Birdie, Bogey (partner had a shot so we used his bogey),Par, Par, Par, Bogey (partner had a shot ditto other hole), Double but partner had a bogey and a shot and had never before scored a point on the hole, Bogey, Par, Par, Par, Oddly no score after being in position A after two good shots, Bogey after finding ball of the bank of the ditch and then using the 17th fairway to come back to the 18th, Partner got a 6 with a shot, par.
41 points between us of 85%. Shook hands thanked everyone for the day and went home. Two of other lads were not going to food as one said the last time he eat there he was ill, and actually raised the standard of catering up at a meeting. That was funny.
Anyhoo, I got a phone call at 4.45pm from my partner to tell me that we'd come second!!!!!!!! My first pick up this year! Cheered me up no end. And I was please for my partner as he'd said how much he'd enjoyed playing with me, as I'd kept jollying him along as he wasn't getting on the card much. But, I said to him that he'd been taking the pressure off back getting the two points in the bag allowing me to just knock in putts I'd normally miss and get three points! (Well, some of the time this was true). But I was pleased for him, as it was obvious from his excited tone of voice on the call that he didn't win much. So I feel really chuffed for us both!

Early tee time this morning playing solo with a half set. Shot a net 54 which could have been even better with a couple of luckier bounces.

Quite enjoy playing a half set sometimes takes a lot of decision out of shots when you're not sure what club to use.

Just a practice round today, tee off in an hour. Decided to leave all big clubs at home so only have irons to play with, 4 to sw. few carries that will be a challenge.but let's see how it goes... update later...

Well, front nine was the bigger challenge getting used to shorter tee shots when most holes are into strong wind, adjusted better on back 9 to finish just under bogey golf
Well over handicap but good experience and very pleased to hit irons consistently
4 iron got a lot of use today on tees and fairways and the doubles were probably down to poor short game and the 3 x 3 putts rather than lost distance off the tee
It definitely focuses the mind and I'd do it again
Just one lost ball that was in water only 6 steps from the pin so no complaints there

Played with taylormade project A ball today and it stood up well to the grooves with no damage at all

Foursomes match, after not swinging a single club for two weeks. If you want to wait for the full write-up in the other thread looks away now...

Started on fire with a birdie 1st and nice par 2nd for 2 up, but our opponents got a lot of lucky breaks off trees - on the 4th they literally stayed in bounds when their shot hit one of the men in the group in front who were letting us play through. 🙄 While we got all the unlucky breaks so ended up 2 down before long. They tripled 11th & 12th which were their shot holes but we stupidly let them off with halves both times - we scraped back to all square winning 13 & 14, but promptly lost another shot hole on 16, another couple of slices of luck won them the 17th and the match. Annoying but I'm used to it by now.

Birdied the 18th which we all played with our own balls as well. The 18th I normally can't buy a par on. Stupid game.
