I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Played this morning as the weather looked better today than yesterday. Was still bloody cold this morning and a decent wind.

Was brave/stupid as I decided to cut my shots to 2 (from 4) as I had won the last 2 but lost 2&1. Was level par on the front 9 (and 2 up) but a terrible back 9 in +5 cost me while my mate shot -2 on the back.

I had 2 points through 6 holes today! Think that'll take some beating

Finished on 27 so played the rest of the holes to handicap or better

Chipped in for a birdie and won a NTP, so it wasn't totally worthless going out

Monthly Stableford today...at times in a howling gale which seemed to come at us from all sides simultaneously and a touch of light rain to brighten the mood..
Decent front 9, a run of bogeys in the middle so turned with 16 points.
Back was going OK until 17...hardest hole on the course and no shot..
OK drive left me 210 to the green downwind....
I thought I hit the 7 wood quite well and was expecting the , at least, be around the green.
But no...the wind decided otherwise and the ball dropped in a bunker 50 yards short.....
Too much sand getting it out and then duffed the pitch.......stupid bloody game..
Finished on 31 points, quite respectable in those conditions until we saw a couple of 40 pointers in Div1 and a 42 in Div2.....

Players Club yesterday, I was pretty average tee to Green, chipping kept the score respectable.

Sutton Green today, long game was shocking, short game was very average and the score was not respectable.

2nd round of the Winter League yesterday - 2 man scramble. I'm partnered with my son in law this year - he's a bit of a golfing newbie so has a high handicap index. We faired pretty well in the betterball comp a couple of weeks back but we only get 15% of his index in the scramble format yesterday and 35% of mine, which gave us a h'cap of 13. The betterball format definitely felt easier to score - and with a minimum of 5 drives each required it was a struggle to get all Jacks in, we had to take a 40 yard top up the last but managed to scrape 25 points over the 13 holes. I do like a scramble but in a 2 ball format like yesterday it suits pairings with similar handicaps and abilities - my partner did make some contributions yesterday but I did most of the heavy lifting, but it was a good crack - but 4 hours to play 13 holes - that's slow play isn't it?

Glad you enjoyed it but 4 hours for 13 holes in winter league golf is ridiculous IMV

Holey moley, yes. If you had played 18 you would have been looking at 5 1/2 hrs. Winter league formats are supposed to be quick and punchy, not slow and ponderous

We've got a greenkeepers revenge comp next week - start sheet is packed (yet when there's a medal on there are loads of gaps...)
I'm scheduled for a 12.10 start and thinking I might cancel cos I don't think we'll get finished before it goes dark.

Our course is pretty challenging so quick rounds aren't expected - but there is an issue with pace of play imho

It doesn't matter how challenging it is, that's excessive. If it was playing like Carnoustie in 1999 then you might have a point but I suspect it is not that tough

Crow and VoyagerEMH vs Upsidedown and Bigfoot. All playing with wooden woods and old bladed irons.

This was the second leg of a East Midlands vs West Midlands match.
First leg was last year in Shropshire at Upsidedown's course, where thanks mainly to Crow, the East emerged as winners.

Today was at my club. Would the team from the West get their revenge?
Upsidedown was giving the shots. One shot for me and 6 each for Crow and Bigfoot.
My one shot proved to be immaterial as when we got to that hole as Crow and I both bogeyed it for net par and a half.

First hole Upsidedown gets down in 2 from 70 yards for a win.
Second hole, par-3, he semi-thins one onto the green and holes the putt for a 2 and the win.
Third hole Bigfoot makes a sound net par for the win.
Crow and I rally a bit with halves on the next two only to lose the par-3 6th hole to a par from Bigfoot.
4 down - OMG

I managed to chip and putt for a par on the par-5 7th for a win and Crow makes a good net par after wayward drive on the 8th for a win.
9th hole is halved in pars and the home side is 2-down at the turn.

We are gifted a win with a bogey on the 10th after opponents find trouble at the back and the front of the green.
Another throw-away-one by way of 3-putts from Upsidedown on the very short par-3 11th where Crow managed to chip and putt after hitting a tree short and left of the green.
All square - Game-On.

12th and 13th are havled in pars and/or net pars.
14th hole I fade my drive round the dogleg to give myself a much shorter second shot than everyone else. Second shot 6-iron is to two feet - a gimmie birdie - and the East go one-up!

15th hole is a 4-way half in bogeys and net bogeys.

One up with 3 to go.
16th is the longest par-3.
Upsidedown is the last to tee off and hits a great shot with his Slazenger Ambassador 4-iron.
3 of us have chips, but Upsidedown's ball is nowhere to be seen. Has he hit it too well and gone off the back?

Its in the hole !!!
Handshakes and a photo ensue.

All square.

The game has got a bit serious now.
17th is halved with par from Upsidedown and net par from Crow. All square on the 18th tee.

I clip a tree on the left with my drive, takes a bit of distance off it, but the ball stays on the fairway.
I hit my HB&S 6-wood and get a couple of yards onto the green, but the pin is right at the back.
Bigfoot plays a great chip and run from out of the trees to be pin-high for 3. Upsidedown is just off the green for 2, short and right, chip comes up 10ft short.
I take my time with my longest putt of the day and get it up to gimmie-range.
So Bigfoot and Upsidedown have putts to tie the match.
Both slide by and it is a very narrow win for the East Midlanders.

Enjoyable game with friends and the course and the greens in reasonable shape. Splendid.

Top report ,although you did miss out the errant demise of an umbrella on the 1st 😉😅.
Cracking day out and bring on the return in 26 😉😀

You forgot to mention at least 3 club chucking incidents :ROFLMAO:
game of 2 halves, for me, front 9 a measley 12 points, back 9 21 points including a par on the 15th par 5 into the 3 club wind- this is a hole ive only ever parred once before
(ok, poor drive, decent second shot, third shot left me 120 yards from the green, full 8 iron onto the green -slightly fortunate bounce- and drained a 30 footer, with an almighty fist pump. oh yes )

33 points and 3rd in my division, scooping £4.20 in the sweep,

left so many out there espectally on the front 9 , grrrr

This must be a fad that's going around as my club also has a night golf event booked in, on Friday 31st. But, apparently the balls are so firm they've said you can't use woods/driver with them, it's irons only. Makes it a bit rubbish when your longest iron is a 6. It's also only six holes and they're charging £20 (with food and Halloween party afterwards) so I think I'll give it a miss. Shame as I'd have fancied giving it a go otherwise.
Bargain! Our place are advertising £30 with soup and sandwiches.

Played our weekly Wednesday stableford competition and shot 4 over for 34 points, it was quite windy, hit driver 3 wood at two of the par fours and came up short, still nice day out and my putting was miles better, except two 3 putts, 15th & 16th trying too hard, smashed them both miles past.
