I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Not on the course but I had a lesson today at a 'golf centre ', Christmas present from my BiL.

First weird thing, I approach the desk, tell them I have a lesson booked, get told 'that will be £6.50'. I told them I had a voucher but no, that's for the balls 😳. For the lesson 😳. Can't say I was over pleased with that.

Anyway, general lesson, getting my swing tightened up. The pro noticed there was either no weight transfer or, on my bad shots, I was leaning back. He wanted me to hit through the ball more with a transfer of weight noticeably happening. Half swing, hit away. Great results, pretty much instant improvement 😍.

I'm not playing tomorrow but hopefully I'll get out on Sunday and put my newly found ball striking talents to the test (where clearly I'll not be able to replicate it 😭). Positive thinking...........A good lesson
Who makes you pay for balls during a lesson! That’s a new one on me 😂

Pretty cheeky charging you for the balls - where was that?

I was quite open mouthed when the lady on reception told me. I repeated it a couple of times out loud as it just baffled me. When I realised she wasn't going to crack, she'd make a good doctors receptionist, I meekly tapped the machine 😄.

I told myself, stuff the rest of the voucher, but actually the lesson went well so I'll have to suck it up again 🙄. At least I hadn't paid for the lessons, that would have really hurt.

Get on eBay and buy 100 old balls and take them with you next time.
See what she says to that 😂

N1 in Morpeth, the old Gubeon.

It's quite a set up there now and it was bursting, half term still. I wouldn't use it as a range but it's good that kids and families have somewhere like that to start off at
I’ve used it a couple of times, decent range and good value compared to the equivalent at Parklands.

The 9 hole course there is laughably bad though.

Didn’t play but did partake in a range session as finished work early and it was bucketing it down.

Recently fallen into bad habits of early extension and the right elbow getting away from me. So been working on keeping it more compact and getting the body and arms working in unison. Still some really ropey shots in there but the difference when I slow it down and get it right 😍 nice high cuts with the long irons and nothing going left (my big miss )

Also had a go of the R7 Quad mini driver demo they had to see what the fuss is! My GOD, I think I’m a convert after a dozen balls, everything out of the centre of the face, nice flight and so easy to hit! Price out me off though.

However PXG have just brought their one out and they do 30% discount for serving military 👌 so after the gym tonight I’ll be hunting my nearest fitting centre and I might tell the wife after I order one 😂

Roll-up again today. Had a reasonably decent start (from the 10th) until I doubled the 17th. 16 points for the first nine. Second nine was superb, made some great pars to put myself on 34 points with one hole to go - then completely forgot how to play and blobbed the par 5 last. Duffed the tee shot, sliced the second, duffed the third, sliced the fourth, and couldn't get up and down.

Very infuriating way to end, but at least I showed I can play to this handicap and haven't completely lost the form that got me there. Made a lot of fours today - eleven of them to be precise. 80 gross - 79 would've got me a small cut, but I stay where I am with a decent back-up round to stop me going up too much when the time comes.

Invitation Day today and I played really good golf and my partner was his usual up and down. He had 19 points after 9 with 3 blobs, it sums his game up well.

We ended on 46 points, might end up top 10 based on some of the 4BBB scores I've seen lately at my place. Both have a score on England Golf after entering it so I guess it has given us both 9 holes each although I was sure I had contributed more. :) I holed out everything (slow round so wasn't holding anyone up) so I shot a level par 72 but even with entering all my scores the new system has given me a 75. 🤷‍♂️

I played the worst round for a long time today.

Overslept, so rushed to the first tee and knobbed the tee shot. It didn't get any better. Points tally mid 20's. I really wanted to walk off.

Board comp medal today.
Nothing worse than a bogey on my card. Problem was - ten of them.
I three-putted three times from just off the green.
Realised late on in the game that I hadn't single-putted a green all day.
Got to 18th - hybrid off the tee to safe spot - 38° iron to green - sank put for a birdie.
Keeps you coming back dunnit?

I think I'm going up 0.3 to 4.5

Broke 80 for the first time, with a 78 and lipped out for birdie on the last as well. What's extra good is I didn't even feel like I hit the ball that well, especially off the tee. Started double, bogey, then scrambled a bit for 6 pars in a row before a bogey on the 9th. 4 over at the turn, thinking, ok, I can't work with this, I'm on handicap but with a harder back 9 about to come. Then I made 4 bogeys and 2 birdies on the back 9 for a 38 in. Just my stretch goal of winning a comp to go and I'll have "completed" my year :)

Trip down to Andover this weekend to see the wifes dad, and oldest daughter - who’s partner is a member at Test Valley, so we had a knock there yesterday. Quite enjoyable.
Up to Marlow today for a junior comp for Jamie. Think I’ll spend a few hours looking round the area while he has a knock

4BBB yesterday. Totted up the card at the end, we had 40 points. Put the scores into the club computer, it confirmed 40 points.

Looked on HDID, it says 37!

Had a word with the pro, he couldn’t explain it.

Same thing happened to the pair we were playing with, they had 38, computer agreed, HDID says 36.

Neither of us were anywhere near winning, so I guess it’s immaterial, but all very odd.

Were pairs of ladies in the same comp?

We finished 9th, winners had 48 so not that far off. Just needed a couple of putts to drop.

A bit annoyed that my calculated 75 doesn’t get me a cut due to a -1 PCC and also annoyed that my first level par round of 72 doesn’t actually count. Guess I’ll need to shoot it next week again.
