I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

A net 61 at The Roman Road course, Celtic Manor.

Beat my partner 3 and 2.

Not my favourite course and unlikely to play it again, but not particularly long, so found myself hitting a lot of greens in regulation, and par 5's in 2. Greens were running pure and never lost a ball, although nearly got caught out on the 10th, with a nasty ravine we didn't know about when thinking laying up was the right shout.

I think it was the Guinness.

Played in a seniors comp at ours this morning. Board job. Drove the ball off the tee like a Pro. I have never been so long and straight. Only two fades. Rest of my game was still in bed. My score was embarrasingly horrendous. A bloke with me shot a 37 for the front nine, the comp was won.......back nine 50. Complete meltdown on 17. Stramgely after me and him agreeing that after our 15th, it was an easy last three holes if you play away from the trouble (and this is easy to do). He didn't and went in a ditch twice on the same hole.

Trip down to Andover this weekend to see the wifes dad, and oldest daughter - who’s partner is a member at Test Valley, so we had a knock there yesterday. Quite enjoyable.
Up to Marlow today for a junior comp for Jamie. Think I’ll spend a few hours looking round the area while he has a knock
Lovely place is Marlow.

First proper game in ages, played at Scotscraig with a couple of good mates.
Putted well, solid irons, deadly greenside chipping and reasonable driving resulted in a +4 round of 75 (nett 67).

Happy with that, course was tip top shape as always and good just to be hitting a ball again.

Great laugh as well with no one really that bothered about how we played which made it more relaxed.

Lovely day at South Shields with @Maninblack4612 and @Beezerk today. My partner, from my home club, and I dovetailed nicely for a cracking 45 points. Very happy with that.

I was generally happy. Started strongly, had the odd wobble and then came back. I was leaning back on a few shots, annoying, and oddly lost my swing part way through but managed to scramble my way out of it. Putting was generally good. At one point I became quite armsy before snapping out of it. My finishing was good today, those awkward 2-3 footers that look simple but actually can be tricky, I mostly knocked them in. That makes a big difference.

Not all good but I know what I need to work on and there is definite progress.

Great company, a good day.

You hit the ball really well off the tee today & that always makes the rest of the game easier. From my point of view I'm glad the company was good because my golf was appalling. Bob Rotella is definitely not the answer!

Greensomes comp yesterday. First time I've played that format.

We played ok, but it didn't help our cause when my PP missed a two foot putt, then, despite the 3 of us yelling NO! at him, proceeded to knock the ball in the hole. Just an automatic action, but a 2 shot penalty :(

Have to say I wasn't a fan of the format.

I like yourself am not a fan of greensomes or foursomes.
It’s ok as a warm up or if you’re playing 36 in a day but I find not playing half the shots I lose a bit of interest.
I did play a fun comp once where you played foursomes but you used 2 balls and played alternate shots with each with only your best ball on each hole to count.
I can’t remember the exact scores or how handicap was worked out but I know the top 5 were all very close and it seemed everyone enjoyed it.

I have a stinking cold at the moment but dosed up on drugs to play a round with my mate, not expecting too much. But my front nine was superb, hardly put a foot wrong. Only 3 over at the turn for 20 points (and 5 up in the match). Then out of nowhere I only managed 5 points over the next 5 holes (I think maybe my paracetamol was wearing off). Ended up finishing with two pars (my only pars of the back nine) to scrape a gross 80 / 34 points. Won the match 4 & 2 in the end. But it should've been so much better! Annoying game. 😆

The rust of not playing regularly continues to show, today’s problem:putting. Haven’t played since playing at Ferndown and then Blackmoor, our greens playing very slowly today and just couldn’t get the ball to the hole. Long game was pretty solid, especially the irons so I’ll take that.

I started on our 10th which is a par 5, good drive, great second shot which I’m confident hit the flag. Proceeded to then 3 putt, that was pretty much the story of the day

Mentioned we’d played Halifax on Saturday along with the hole in one shenanigans on the 7th.

He was about 4 inches away from another yesterday. Ball pitched next to the hole, rolled up the bank then back down past the hole by about the width of a cup. Made a two and took the nearest the pin prize.

Stableford for me at Willow Valley with the son in law Jack, who is fairly new to the game. He’s investing in regular coaching and it’s paying off. Ball striking much improved. Highlight of the round was seeing him stick a 7 iron on the island green on the 14th. 3 putts for a bogey but that didn’t matter - the hole is 420+ yards so finding a g.i.r is no easy task.

My driver game has fell apart over the last couple of months. Quite bizarrely out of nowhere really have been hitting these low-mid ballflight hooks. Clubface is obviously closed at impact and I'm quite shallow into the ball which maybe promoting the in to out path and super closed face and it's not pretty. It's so destructive to scoring. I did manage to find a temporary fix by opening everything up at set up and trying to smooth tempo out but it's so reliant on the swing being connected and the body engaged which mine just isn't more often than not. I say driver, but it's really with most clubs except wedges. It's obviously a swing, technical issue. I've been hooking irons all year so nothing new there really but it's quite wild how it's now translated into driver and it's costing me big time out there. My putting has got really sharp and my short game has improved dramatically recently but the long game is costing me so much. Almost every tee shot or approach more than 120 yards. Clubface control is lacking big time. My handicap has jumped up to 11.5 as a result.

Last few rounds - 84 (shorter course), 85,95,89,92,88,97,95.

Even taking my last round 84, which was at a fairly short course at 5800 yards, par 69. It really should've been about 74 but I just couldn't get off the tee. Quite mental and not something I've ever had issues with.
