I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Funny old round today. Finished 10 over gross off PH of 7…not too bad considering only 3 GIR and an 8 on our par 4 tenth, plus on top of that two 18” putts missed. And so despite all that and with my 8 only counting 6 for handicap purposes I reckon a 0.3 cut in HI will be the outcome…taking me to 5.8…my lowest ever.

A PH of 7 is my lowest since the late 80s…when I very briefly got down to 6 - and off our forward teens my PH iwill be 5…never been 5…if I’ve done my sums correctly…amazing what retirement can do for your golf.

The only "fun" would be to pick up a prize for our good play.

Thank you for bearing with me while I have been responding to others.

Some of my responses will possibly seem to be in the wrong order, sorry.

I think that I have already explained that response that I gave to another.
If we had picked up £15 pro-shop credit each for 4th place, I might have had a little "hee-hee" moment. A very brief moment of fun, maybe. I really could not think of anything else that could have given me a sense of fun for the day at the golf course. I would have had no increased level of "fun" than this even if we had won the whole comp.
If I win a comp, I am grateful. And I am thankful to my club and all who took part.
I am just not seeking "fun" on the golf course.
The game yesterday, in itself, was challenging and enjoyable. I believe that is what a greenkeepers' revenge should be. I really enjoyed playing a good round with my partner.
Whether we win a prize or not is of very little consequence. I played for that enjoyment and that is what occurred. Great.

I think you maybe getting yourself all a little mixed up here

Fun = enjoyment = fun

noun
  1. enjoyment, amusement, or light-heartedpleasure.

Greenkeepers Revenge two-player scramble yesterday.
I like this format. I find 4-player scrambles rather tedious in comparison.

Me 4.2 and partner 13.3.
35% lower and 15% higher gave us PH of 4.
We were 1-under gross. Negotiated all 6 holes with obstacles successfully. Made one bogey and two birdies.
Absolutely solid game by us for 41 points.
13th place out of 60 pairs.
6 shots behind the winners.
Why do we bother?
Quite puzzling how this post, which is very similar to hundreds of others, should merit such a huge amount of scorn to be levelled at me.

Everything is merely factual reporting, apart from the final line.

Four words, clearly not to be taken too seriously, but they were.

Unwarranted criticism of my whole approach to golf ensued from those four "just-for-fun" words. Blah, blah, blah.

Fair enough.
I have had fun with every golf shot I have ever played.
I just did not realise it at the time.
Still don't.
"My bad" (a phrase I have learned recently. I don't like it, but I find it fun to use)

I’ll say no more than I can very easily differentiate between enjoying my golf and a golfing challenge, and having fun when playing - regardless of format. And it is a rare day that I walk off the course thinking ‘well that was fun…’. But there you go…and so to silence do I go on the matter.

Played Pleasington in the open today.
Off the 64 tees they have numbers not colours very easy to get it wrong.
Quite a test of my golf I havnt got the length to get on the long holes anymore.
But had a 10’ eagle putt on 7th. Missed 😳
Had 4 birdies though 😀
Cracking course and very intimidating of the tee with all the big rough around the bunkers
With it being hard and running we had some bad bounces but others must have as well.

Lying third when we left.
Really good day out on a lovely course with mates and a good laugh at our bad shots.
This is golf for me now I really enjoyed it.

Willow Valley Masters yesterday which is one of our 4 'Major' comps. The course is set up with some tricky pins but I made a solid start over the first 8 holes with 19 points. Blobbed the 9th, and from then I either scored decent points or no points and ended up with a total of 34.

Jamie was supposed to be entered - but his pp didn't turn up and as he was the last group out in a 2 ball he had to withdraw - it's a drawn comp where you enter a time zone. I was a bit miffed about it to be honest, there were 3 x 2 ball groupings in the last time zone, so either put them out first, or put them out as 2 x 3 balls.

Final week of the school holidays - he's playing Hull on Wednesday and Thursday in the Yorkshire Junior Team Championships then we had south on Friday to see the outlaws and make a visit to Harleyford on Sunday for the Tyrell Hatton Junior Masters - then back to school for the kid - he's going to be devastated.... :ROFLMAO:

2 rounds in the 70’s on the bounce. (both 77 and could have been 3 or 4 better) Maybe I won’t take up fishing again LOL

9 holes this afternoon with a mate and his 2 boys. Just at the local muni. They been down the range during school holidays and wanted to try a proper course.
Pretty much only people out there meant we didn’t need to rush and no pressure on the lads.
They both scored 62 although we let them off a couple of air shots each but more importantly they both want another bash.
A few beers after for us and coke and burgers for the lads in the pub up the road.
Great way to waste a few hours.
Oh and for anyone interested I played like a prat 😂
