I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

@Golfnut1957 swapped for Rudding 😲🤦‍♂️🤣. That's a mare of a decision, I hope you paid him back.

Mando is back there. He can answer for himself but I think the gist of it, likes the course, gets frustrated it let's so many charity days, opens, corporates etc block it out so he can't play it.

Played Bamburgh Castle this afternoon in sunshine and virtually no wind. Shot 78 and might have done better if knew where I was going.

Really enjoyable though, great sea views and above average quirkiness in places!😁 3 hour round, hardly saw a soul

Yes there's a few blind holes, or blind tee shots
But stunning views and location
Beautiful area

After Sunday’s debacle with my driver, I wanted to get out again and see if I can bring my range swing to the course, the answer was no, but lots better than Sunday, short game was pretty good and the score was much more respectable.

Another shocker of a round, driving good, irons crap, chipping ok and putting decent for once. Just a couple of moments of madness and a couple of poor bounces meant I had an adjusted double (kicked the ball off the green rather than tapping in for a triple) followed by another stupid double (shocker of a bounce into a ditch that I had to drop from then a 3 putt from 20 foot) that killed the round. I’m hitting the ball decent overall but I just can’t score atm and keep throwing in at least one stupid double per round.

Ended with an adjusted 81 for +9, got a 74 dropping off so should be going up 0.6 or 0.7 to either 4.4 or 4.5.

Got a few more dropping off next few rounds, might be dangerous in a comp in 3 weeks when I might be getting 8 shots at this rate.

Played at my 2nd course today and shot 5 over, which was great as the course needs rain, and lots of it......
and it's raining now, forecast 4 mil...whop-pee

Another solid round of 8 over for 36 poi ts and another small cut.
Sloppy finish as the wind kicked up...4 bogeys on the bounce.
Found out how forgiving the G440 driver is...used most of the face at one point or another and still made fairways... 😋

One of those frustrating rounds where on every single hole something went wrong..
I'm happy to hold up my hands when I get a good break but, omg, I got every bad one in the book .
Kicks into bunkers ( under the lip of course), behind trees, catching downslopes, upslopes and anti-gtavity sideslopes, lipouts, putts touching the hole and finishing 1cm behind....
You name it......
Scrambled 30 points..given the circumstances it was absolutely the best I could have scored....

Just back from playing at Oakdale. There were 5 of us today....I was in the first 2 ball. Slow. Couple of 2 balls of ladies in front of us......maybe playing a comp, no idea but they were slow. Pro giving a lesson right in front of us talking through all the shots. Got to the 9th.....2 ladies on the green, 2 ladies waiting on the tee, the guy giving the lesson in front of us waiting.....and us. The guy with the lesson gave up and left. I gave up and the guy I was playing with dropped back to finish the 18 with the other 3 guys in our group. I went home and had a huge sandwich.

Oakdale is a strange place to me at times. During the winter....sloppy as heck. A good reason why I also play at Ripon, which is probably the best winter course in the area. At this time of the year....Oakdale is nice, but as Lord T says....I get really irritated with getting kicked off the course on a regular basis for other "events". I know it brings in money.....but I'd rather pay more subs and not get blocked from playing. Some of these "business days etc" are repeat events that have been going for years and years. I'll likely continue being a member at both clubs. I like the attitude and feel of Ripon a lot better, and it's less busy....but it's an annoying 25 min drive each way. Oakdale is a 7 min drive......so I will probably continue playing twice a week with a small group at Oakdale and playing W+Th with a large rollup at Ripon....best of both worlds.

Oakdale is full from my understanding. Room at Ripon.

@Mandofred I'm surprise at there being room at Ripon, unless there is not much room. I think it is a really good course, good clubhouse. It's an all round excellent set up and I would happily be a member there.
Yeah, I don't get it. If they had a decent place to practice I'd be happy. There is a driving range next to the course....but I don't get much out of that for what I work on. The front 9 at Ripon is quirky....and a few people I've talked to at Oakdale etc aren't keen on it. Last I heard Ripon was hoping to pick up more people....that was months ago though. Subs are less at Ripon....less busy of a course.....probably the best year round course in the area.

Week in the East Riding of Yorkshire for the East Yorkshire mixed golf week and came 11th out of 72 and 2nd prize for day one at Hull .
Courses in order of preference
Hessle
Hull
Brough
Cottingham Park.
Have to say the etiquette of some of the competitors left a little to desire, 2.rounds of just shy of 5 rounds is not good .
Food after was excellent

Donna and I played Eyemouth today. Struggled to 28 points on a hard bouncy links, that isn't all links!🤣🤣

Smashing sea views, 6th and 7th worth the green fee alone. Some oddities, bit very enjoyable.

Views from clubhouse window are super
We played Eyemouth back in 2019, both weekend days. Saturday I had to hit 3 hybrid into that par 3 as it was into he wind. Did hit a 350 yard drive on the long par 5 that is massively downhill.

One of the par 4’s at the end with a steep green, the pin was at the front and when your putt didn’t go in the wind was blowing the ball back off the green before you could mark it. Everyone was 5 and 6 putting it, was hilarious.

Entered the Medal today, mostly because I don't have enough comp rounds on my record at the moment. They had me off at 7:53 which is a tad early for my liking. Started from the 10th and made three doubles in the first five holes, so I was already eight over when I only get 12 shots... Top start. Course was drenched from an early morning downpour so my short game was in the bin - still had my summer short game head on when I needed the winter one for those opening holes.

There followed a comedy of errors, including; three missed tap-ins, one shank, one four-putt, then a very nice birdie as well. Had an impressive bingo card going for a while. A nice bunker shot on the 7th prevented me adding 'Adolf Hitler' to it. Remarkably my driver was probably the best club in the bag and kept me going without any big numbers on the longer holes. In the end I parred the final hole and was surprised to see I'd shot a gross 86. Still +6 in the medal but a damn sight better than I thought it had been!

Probably a good sign that my lowest bar of awful golf has been raised considerably lately. Walked off not feeling too down about the round really, I definitely played some good golf in between some utterly disastrous moments.

My first NR in a Medal for at least 15 years.
Hit a decent drive on 17..should have been very easy to walk straight to it let alone having to hunt in the 1 1/2 inch 2nd cut - assuming it got that far....never entered my mind to hot a Provo as it would be an easy find...
No sign of it in an area where you, quite literally, couldn't lose a ball..
I wasn't going to walk back at that stage so the NR is on the card...
Would have signed for a nett 80 anyway and as there's a nett 66 in I didn't see much point...
Frustrating day, frustrating shots, bounces etc etc etc....
Stupid game

Played really well today, shot a +4 for 37 points. Might be a PCC going the other way though as there are currently 6 people tied for the lead on 39.

Overnight rain made the greens slightly more receptive and a south west wind made the course much more playable.

I hit my wedges great, gave myself a ton of birdie chances and took 3 of them. Still threw in a stupid double having hit an approach into a gorse bush but overall just relieved to actually score decently finally.

Also have 1 of the 3 two’s so far from 70 finishers.
