Played Bamburgh on the way up to St Andrews on Sunday. First knock of the golf trip. The winner of the first day got the Kingbed in the apartment for the trip.
Early morning tee off and the greens were frozen but sun was shining. Little breeze made it a tough test - especially having to pull driver on the 208 uphill Par3 (SI 1). All round decent knock from everyone. I won Day1 by a point - Chipped in for par on 17 to secure the big bed
Get in.
Played the Old Course the next day after a few too many Guinness the night before. Forced down a Scottish breakfast in the club house and a few shanks on the range to warm up. Not many places quite like St Andrews for pre round anticipation/excitement. Weather was perfect. I shot 8 over which I was happy with (with a quad on 16 that I wasn't happy with
). My mate plays off 11 and shot 74! He was at -1 on the 17th tee box. Teeing off on 18 my other mate hit a huge slice which smashed into a car parked on the road
his face watching his ball cut 90 degrees across the fairway is something I'll never forget. All had a great round - 41 points, 44 points and 46 points. I was 2 points behind after Day2.
Final day - Jubilee course - dreadful front 9 from me. 5 points behind after 9 holes. Had a great back 9 and was in the lead by 1 point on the 17th tee box - a simple par3 (plus I had a shot on the last hole so the trophy was pretty much in the bag). Until I shanked a 5iron OB
. Hit 3 off the tee - straight into a bunker... triple bogey. Lost by a point
